oil catch can

hey guys i just replaced my ccv a few week back, i just pulled my intake manifold to check to see if theres any oil in it. and sure enough there is oil in it.
Is it possible to run an oil catch can on n52? anybody running one?

I have one on an N53, purchased from here: http://www.saikoumichi.com/

As my car has electric steering, I was able to mount it where the PS fluid reservoir usually sits...

After I took off intake manifold and saw how much oil was inside I installed oil catch tank and blanked off the manifold pcv inlet.

If you just replaced your CCV I wouldn't bother with a catch can. The reason you had oil in the manifold was your CCV wasn't functioning well. One of its responsibility is to catch oil and return back to oil pan.

Some oil is getting in the manifold even if the CCV is functioning well. I found oil in the manifold when the car was new when I was installing 3 stage. It’s no problem on N52 because the oil is getting mixed with gas before it hits the intake valves. On N53 and N54 it is a problem.

Won't blocking off the PCV return line to the sump cause a pressure build-up in the OCC?

PCV return line doesn’t go to the sump it goes to the intake manifold. I have this setup for 150K km with no problem and the engine doesn’t use any oil between oil changes.

OK thanks Vlad. Care to point out its location on realOEM? Is it near the throttle body? In which case I think it's blanked off already on the 325i...

You must be breathing the crankcase to atmosphere then? The pressure in the crankcase has to go somewhere. For emissions it is not a good thing. Blow by gases will be going to air.

An oil catch can might be a good idea for those with the 3 stage manifold since oil seems to damage DISA valve gaskets and motors. I just have no idea where to fit it without miles of hosing

The PCV inlet is at the back of the manifold beside the EGR inlet. Same location on 325i and 330i manifold.

Yes it goes to atmosphere (Most fumes are caught by filter on the catch can) . As for emissions it’s nothing compare to what diesels do.
