by activating that means you have to physically route the most
cables into the
loop at the most Hub. Probably easier to put in the dash
area like the install says and run a cable if you have to out
to where its easy to reach.
If you put a USB and a sd stick in how often are you going to change
it anyway

Thanks. I'll just keep it simple and do the USB extension strategy.

The original ebay link now refers you to a lesser product.
The one above is the right one for now as of this posting.

This one has USB but it is also shipped out of NJ instead of
Hong Kong. I am sure they are the same box on the inside.

No they aren't take a close look at the pictures.
Also this use the cdc option to run it so it won't work
on Idrives that don't support it. At least the old one won't.
Its right in the descriptions on ebay.

I used this diy successfully this morning, I learned a few things that'll hopefully save future diyers some time. For reference this is on my 2011 E90 with the BMW Professional stereo and Harmon Kardon sound. My phone is a OnePlus 6T.

1. I coded my car before I installed the ebay box. It worked fine, but you will not see the CDC option on the headunit until you install the box. I wondered if the car was smart enough to figure out the I didn't have the CDC yet, it was.

2. I didn't have $694 on my VO/FA list. I suspect that was an LCI change maybe?

3. If your car has bluetooth for phone only, and you want to retain that functionality, make sure than you flip dip switch #4 first before you pair your phone. If you adjust the bluetooth profile for the ebay box at all (like disabling the phone), you can't stream anything.

4. Previously, I was using a Kinivo BTC450 through the factory aux connection. That box does support aptx. However, due the low quality BMW aux, I do think the ebay box sounds better. Not earth shatteringly better, but some better.

All in all I think this is the best (and cheapest) option we have for decent quality bluetooth streaming and retaining the steering wheel controls.

I will be installing this for mine (wired for CD Changer). The plan is to not take apart the dash and put it in the trunk, thus leveraging the existing wiring (power included).

You will have to make sure there is a fuse in the cd changer slot
In the fuse board .
and put the fiber into the loop at the most junction.
I had a TCU out so I need to use there Mike unless I can tap
into the OEM one.(TCU died)
I could just put it there but the access isn't good.
Already did the programming for adding the cdc and programming
out the SOS errors . Didn't do VO coding only coded it out/in on
the Kombi , ProRadio looks like it will work that way.
I would like to put somewhere where I can change out the usb drives
easily I am thinking under the dash in the glove area.

Thank you for this.

On my lunch break I checked out the wiring, and found if you disassemble the composite connectors the MOST connector will plug directly into the unit. The BMW CD Changer power connector will likely have to be cut and resoldered to the streaming box power connector. To your point I think fuse 38 ties to the CD Changer. Oddly the TIS (01 29 0 409 352) say nothing about installing a fuse. I already did the MULF2 upgrade so USB already (technically) exists in the center console- I just have to run the AUX and USB wire (but that's for a different thread).

The next issue is how/where to mount it. The corner in the trunk has so much soft sound-deadening material and not many decent mounting points.

When I looked at my fuse box there was no fuse in the slot
designated for cd player.

As was mentioned earlier in this Thread
Posi Taps for t connectors I ordered a few .
I am impressed by there quality and easy to use ness.

Fuse numbers function will vary by year consult your fuse map.
mine is 17 for the TCU and 18 for the cd player in an 06.
Also the fuse map was still in my car stored on the back of he
glove box rear cover.

If you looked at the BMW cd changer install part of the process is
to reroute the fiberoptics for cd changer into the active most loop
at the Most Hub. If you see no red light shinning out of fibers
going to the cd its not in the Most Loop.
Easy to check the light through the fibers just by shinning a flash
light in and looking for it to come out at the other end.

Also you may find these useful especially the first two.

Posi taps rock. I could now install one of these boxes and code it in about 10-15 minutes with the CD changer pre-wiring.

Would love to see a DIY for this if you do it successfully. Instead of cutting or tapping any of the CD changer wiring, maybe you can find just the plug from BMW and build your own adapter?

I considered this, but the likelihood I would revert the power connector (the only unique connector) to buy a CD changer down the road is slim. The CD Changers are $500, and I don't even think I own 6 CDs!

That said, the power connector is the only modified part; the MOST connector can be re-inserted into the composite connector if one were to revert back.

On the positive side (pun intended), the power connector is live, with 12V supplied at the connector (red = +12V, brown = GND). I assume it is leveraging the BMW IBS strategy for the power control given its intent to control the CD Changer. So a simple cut & solder job is all that is needed. I may try reverting everything back to redo it all and take pictures, but no guarantees.
