328i vs 335i Reliability

I was wondering if anyone knew which one was more reliable. I remember a while ago while the driver from the dealer was driving me back home, he was telling me the mechanics told him the 330i was much more reliable then the 325i and its worth the extra cost. I was wondering if anyone knows if the 328i coupe was more reliable or if the 335i coupe is.

The 328 doesn't have a HPFP (at least in the U.S.). That probably counts for something.

If you want reliability, check out a Lexus or Infinity

This is a good point, but the question was whether there is a difference in the two models, with an implication that maybe the 335 might be more reliable than the 328. I don't think we have any evidence on this board that 325's are less reliable than 330's, so I am not sure the original premise is right. Beyond that, there are a couple of problems (the HPFP and the serpentine belt pulley) that seem to be unique to the turbocharged engine, and nothing in particular that is unique to the 328.

You are saying BMWs are unreliable!!!!!

Haven't seen any issues with 328's so far, but 335's seem to drop like flies from the fuel pump issue as well as heat problems.

Just a guess, but I think the 335 engine will prove itself to be rock solid over time.

328i is aspirated......335i is turbo.....so i quess the 328 is more cheap and more easy to take care of :P

I never said they were unreliable maybe you should double check what I wrote. I'm just saying toyotas are known for being reliable cars since some people are driving 1986 toyotas one could only think they are reliable cars.

The funny thing is, I don't think the OP ever said that reliability was the goal. He just wondered if one of the cars has more problems than the other. That seems clearly the case.

Whether it's a 328 or 335 it probably won't make much of a difference when it comes to reliability of the things that have been problems for BMW's in the past, like window regulators, final stage resistors, seat belt sensors, moon roof clips, etc. etc.

I really think it depends on the driver.. A lot of us in the forum can maintain our cars well but the public on the other hand is different. From what I seen 335i main problem is fuel pumps and 328 hasn't had any major problems.

September 06' build 335i with 17k miles here; no fuel pump failures. Car has been 100% reliable and I drive my car very hard. My point is that many people are enjoying 335i's with no problems at all.

I guess long term speaking, 328 would be better since there are no turbos to worry about.

I checked what you wrote, and according to the way the english language works, you were using what is known as "implying"... this is when you say something without actually saying it.. such as if the OP were to buy a toyota they would get reliability... and this "implies" that BMW's are not reliable... which may be the case, but you did say what you say you didn't say...

The only reason I ask is because BMW hasn't used turbos in a long time and I was wondering if anyone was having turbo problems.

About the Toyota comment.... My mom has a v6 Camry, man do they drive like crap. I don't think I can drive anything other then a BMW from now on unless its like a Porsche, everything drives like crap.

I had a 97 V6 Camry which was very reliable and never gave me any problems other than what I caused. I wouldn't say it's a random thing.. but not every car no matter the make/model is 100% identical or subjected to 100% identical conditions
