Upgrade CCC Controller to CIC?

Hi,

I've just bought a 2008 E91 335d (pre-LCI).

The previous owner has had the CCC system upgraded to the CIC system, and I'm very impressed with how it works.

I think there are a couple of mods left to do:

1 - The previous owner mentioned they've not yet upgraded the controller to the CIC version - e.g. I have the one on the left.

On eBay these seem very cheap (£30). Is it plug and play? Do I need to do anything else to fit?

2 - Upgrade the maps to the latest version.

3 - Potentially replace the HDD with an SSD.

Apologies if this has been covered before - I've done stuff with ICE before, and done BMW "coding" (NCSExpert) on my E85 Z4 but all this iDrive stuff is new to me!

The controller will be a simple swap however you will need new console trim which is not cheap. The CIC controller just adds a few shortcut buttons. It does not add additional functionality.

Map upgrade links are in this same forum. Research how to create a FSC code and download maps to the usb.

SSD upgrades provide a minimal performance increase. If your hard drive goes bad, go for it. Low cost IDE SSD are now available and there is no longer a need for adapters.

Thanks - is it a straight swap? Or coding needed too?

Coding is not needed. I did get one where the software was much older than the CIC so I had to flash it with winkfp. But that is not normal.
