E91 - Base Audio

I'm currently looking at a couple of E91 335i.

Unfortunately they have the options I want, except they all have base audio

My question is how bad is the standard system?
I've read a lot of posts on here saying it's bad but how bad?

Coming from a E90 with Individual audio I ideally wanted something that's got Hi-fi at the minimum

stepping down from Individual audio to base is not like stairs, more like a cliff. On a positive note, the base audio is 100x easier to improve the sound in because there is not issues with the MOST loop or the Hifi harness.
grab up a Gladen Audio bmw 201/Mosconi set and you will love it.
Best of luck!

That's probably the only positive then.
I'm trying to save some money by changing so didn't really want to spend out on a retrofit or anything but I'll have to see how bad it is first.

Garage List
2008 BMW M3  [8.00]
2007 BMW 323i  [8.50]
You'll want more than the amp, everything needs to be addressed in some way:

HU - coded to hifi to flatten the EQ curve and deliver low level outputs

Amp - nonexistent, you'll want a 5 or 6 channel though

Door speakers - inferior mids, and no tweeters

Underseat woofers - 6" inferior speakers instead of 8"

There are plenty of good drop in kits that replace the full front stage of speakers (8" woofers, doors mids, plus tweeters), and they'll fit with the oem tweeter pods/sails.

Good luck!

Ditching the base system in my E91 was the one of the best things I've done to the car. I just hate that I put it off for so long. It should have been the very first mod. There are tons of helpful resources on here too.

I've found a gladen extreme kit for sale with an additional amp and rear speakers, so if I get the E91 I might get that

Good News

I am having the same dilemma with my e92, will post a new thread on what my issue is though. For you however, I would definitely say you will tell the difference, it is pretty bad, I know from experience, but luckily for you it shouldn’t be too difficult to upgrade.
