328xi on bags - axle pop problem/solutions
Howdy all,
So I'm in the process of bagging my 08 pre-lci 328xi. I have read a lot about front axles popping out on awd cars when lowered past a certain point, but nobody ever seems to come to a conclusion on how to fix the issue other than "make axle longer" then nobody updates anything. Well, I suppose I could do that, but I figured I would look and see if there is an OEM option that would potentially work. Heres what I came up with.. Stock E90 - left - 31607558949 - 699mm E60 525xi (n52) - left - 31607570275 - 738mm (+39mm) Stock E90 - right - 31607558950 - 920mm E83 X3 LCI (n52) - right - 31603450566 - 949mm (+29mm) I am ordering a pair of these axles used here and when I get them am going to check spline count, diameter, and installed length on the car/combinations of right outer and inner to see if any of this is viable. It seems the problem lies in the geometry when lowered over extending the axles at the inner cv, ripping the boot, and allowing the bearing tripod to pull out of the cv housing. Some form of length extension should fix this, whatever combination of cv parts that may be. Curious if anyone else has tried something along these lines? Im slamming this bitch. Idgaf what I have to do to accomplish it. Worst comes to worst, the trans will get swapped with a 335i rwd unit and the front cvs disassembled to leave the outers in place for abs and everything recoded. I'd like to not do that if possible. lol. |
