I'm hoping to change the vin# that is stored in the DME- MSD80 module. It is different then all the other modules and the car itself (registration). My state's OBD emission process reads the computer and the mismatch between the DME vin and the registration vin# is causing me problems. I've seen a number of simple tutorials using winkpf to change the vin# stored in the various modules using the "Update ZUSB" button and entering in the desired VIN#. But i don't get those buttons???

I have the write VIN option turned off by default so that it doesn't use up a UIF spot (modules only allow so many before they have to replaced to receive further updates). To change this setting so that you can write VINs, open C:\EC-APPS\NFS\BIN\Winkfp.ini and change KOMFORT_MIT_AIF=OFF to =ON.

As for your DME, you won't be able to change the VIN using this method as that info is write protected on a DME that already has a VIN written. The CAS and KOMBI are also set up this way to prevent tampering. To achieve what you want, you'll either to find someone to install a virgin chip. Or, someone to clone your DME using your CAS, Key, and possibly your FRM.

i'm lead to believe that the DME stores the vin in multiple places, some more secure than others, but that winkfp can change it in the UIF and that is all that is required to solve my problem.
I'd like to try, but when i open winkfp and choose "Comfort", i don't get the options for enter, choose or update zusb. i only get identify ecu family, choose custom file, update ecu and now- enter vin

Update ECU - This allows you to update the module based on the last update available for that particular module.

This ^^^^

Select your DME, enter your VIN, and then Program. Don't forget to also have external power hooked up during the flash.

That's part of the problem with these programs, is that buttons can be re-labeled to whatever you want. It just depends on who's install you're using.

Hello All,

I’m new to the BMW scene, and have a 2006 E91 3 series. The CCC I drive module has failed, I believe this is a common fault.

I have the opportunity of buying a known working unit from another car but believe this will need some coding to work correctly in my car.

I have a full registered version of VCDS for VAG group vehicles, and I know my way around that fairly well but have to admit to being a bit lost with the BMW stuff. Inpa, Ista, Esys, NCS expert etc. etc.

Can someone advise which software and hardware I need to be able to perform the required coding for the idrive module? As mentioned I have a proper VCDS OBD lead and various other OBD interfaces. I imagine that these may cover the hardware side of my requirements.

Many thanks in advance.

John

I just did this last month. Simply get the bmw standard tools and install. Use ncsexpert to default code the ccc modules. It should work flawlessly after that. The process took less than ten minutes.

Hello, Thanks so much for sharing these softwares.
Can I ask something? How can I uninstall the software to redo a clean install (I'm on win10)? Should I run the "uninstall" in "parameters>applications" and select BMW standard tools? Thanks.

Hi all,

I have the software installed to the letter from Joe's instructions, and I have the right Daten files (e89) for my e92 M3, but I can't read engine codes with INPA and I can't program the SMC module I need to do , for my right headlight...
I can read other modules, and I know the cable is good, I can use it to read codes with my phone (carly app) and I used it many times to program my 335i with MHD...

Is there any gotcha for INPA to use on this car? 2009 M3 ?

Many thanks

For what it's worth, it was a damaged SMC module not responding. I changed it to a china made one from ebay for 35 bucks (oem is over 100) and it works like a charm. The only thing is that you need to remove the bumper to take off the headlight on these cars.
I used "SG_Codieren" job on my vin with NCSexpert.

The only requirement for this install is Windows XP through Windows 10, 32 or 64 bit version and a working KDCAN cable. Instead of writing a lengthy detail in this post, I generated the instructions that's included in link below.

If this install has assisted you in achieving a working set up, please click the appreciate link, thanks!

The files needed for INPA is updated at the same time you're updating NCS, as long as you're using the BMW Coding Tool.

Sorry if I am violating any rules by posting about the issues I am having with my E61 on E90 forum. But I have exhausted all ways that I can try out to get my winkfp/INPA talk to my car via ICOM-B. I am trying to update my CIC unit to v41. This is a unit that came out of a 2010 E60 with the same engine as mine, but has very old CIC software. My goal is to update CIC to v41 and do Combox upgrade. As it is the CIC and everything works fine in the car

At first tried with a clone set of ICOMA2+B, purchased a genuine ICOM-B but still no luck. ICOM-A2 works fine otherwise via OBD interface. Tried on Win10 and two Win7 systems with no luck. I am exhausted being stuck at this stage for the past year. Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

INPA gives IFH-009 NET communiation error whenever the interface is set to REMOTE:MOST_ASYNC_ab625, but everything works fine as soon as I set it to REMOTE:Base

I try to install the program on Windows 10 pro 64-bit following the instructions given in the first post (wildcatcrazy) but at step 16 when I run BMW Coding Tool, an error message showed up "System Error &H80004023 (-2147467229). Did you previously try to install the tools using Mike's Easy install?
