OT: New telly ordered
I have just ordered a new lcd tv. I could only go 37 inches (ohhheerrr matron!!) due to room dimensions.
Its a Sharp LC37XD1E and I got it from Curry's for £665 delivered - hopefully this Wednesday. I am wondering if anyone else has a Sharp TV and what are they like? I will be running it thru my (now quite old system) Pioneer VX-AX3 amp and Monitor Audio Silver Speakers (S10, SLCR, SFX) and Yamaha SW-800 sub. I also have a Freecom MD350 HD box for all my HD downloads. It is a great little piece of kit.

NO!!!!!
Quick take it back or cancel asap. I have a 32" Sharp Aquos. The TV is great when it works. But had lots of aftersales hassle. I have had SharpServ out twice in 6mths. DSG (Currys et al) will not help you if it goes wrong after 28 days as Sharp UK will not let their techs touch the TVs. You have to call a 3rd party contractor called SharpServ based in Notts and they have no connection to Sharp UK or Japan other than being their "authorised repair agent" in the UK. I had a firmware update sent in the post to upgrade the TV after three months. Then after 5 mths the screen went pink around the edges of objects on screen. DSG wouldn't help me Sharpserv came and upgraded the software onboard the PC. A month later then the same thing happended except it was green instead of pink! Luckily my tv is only for the kitchen not the lounge but I'd never touch Sharp again unless they deal direct for after sales. For the record I have Samsung, Sharp & Toshiba LCDs at home. Samsung screens are top dog for me - not had to call the after sales support for them as they just work and work.

We have a Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma in the lounge running through a Kenwood DSP and six Mission speakers. Sky HD box feeds the tv and also the DSP. No probs with the tele, also five year warranty as it came from John lewis.

Let us know what you think of the Sharp. I'm currently looking at a Samsung 37" which also does 1080p HD.

i recently bought a 40" Samsung LCD, have to say its pretty good, but it would of been in comparison to my old 20" tube it replaced, one thought though when looking in the shops as i did dont be suckered into buying really big just because the 36/37" look small next to the whoppers - when i got my 40" home it was a little large for the room - not that i would of considered taking it back of course, i also have tannoy speakers and cambridge audio amp and hdmi dvd player

Hopefully you got a lemon and mine will be ok Does get good reviews though - so reliability is my main worry probably. Anyone use an HD box like the Freecom MD350? It is one of the greatest buys for me this year. I wirelessly stream video from my PC upstairs, and it upscales everything that isnt HD to 1080p. Does a fantastic job with lo-res stuff.

Have you checked the cable/connection between it and the XBox? Also, I never use the volume on the TV and always put the sound thru the amp. I have one remote for everything so just, for example, select the activity 'Watch TV' and it does all the rest. Turns on everything, changes amp to right input, changes tv to correct input, etc, etc.

I also went for the Vierra 42", John Lewis were as compepetive as anyone and has been previously posted it comes with a 5 year warranty. I looked at LCD's, primarily the Samsung, however at that time they didn't catch fast action so well, it may be different now though. I picked it up from their depot and it was just as well I had the Touring at the time as the boxes only just fitted in with millimetres to spare !

Most of the LCD TVs on the market are the same inside (screen component) as there are very few manufaturers of LCD screens. Sharp and Samsung seem to make the fastest response ones. You can usually compare the response rate by looking at Sky Sports News on them side by side to see if you can read the ticker clearly. I only got the Sharp as its deployed in the Kitchen mainly for freeview and low def TV. Apparently Sharp TVs have some electronics to improve low def viewing.

funnily enought only Monday I purchased a 50" LG plasma model 50PC55 for £799 and got the wall mounting bracket costing £180 for free because I can't have it for 2 weeks.
I am not sure if the telly is any good but it looked cool I am now trying to source a decent hi fi system with wireless speakers |
