Your used CIC has the FSC enabling codes and the maps of the donor's car, my new unit does not have either. That's the reason your trick works in yours and not in mine.

I knew of another other way of doing the same.

So if we want to retrofit a used CIC navigation we have to trick it every time we drive the car? Has anyone made any progress on this retrofit? I'm getting bored and like to retrofit mine. I've already done the bluetooth, homelink, Sirius...I'd love to have the new navy to complete my package.

That's one trick, the permanent solution is quite more complicated than that.

THe "trick" would be to have BMW support this retrofit. They had no problem taking my money to program my car when I retrofitted my TCU and Sirius. I dont see why they cant fork up the codes and take our money. Not having this fully functional becomes problematic when we need to take our cars in for service and programming is required.

I mean I saved 15k on my car buying it used so I had to sacrifice options...but I retrofitted everything I wanted but the navigation system...I think the old CCC is not worth the trouble, but the new HDD system is the shiz.

You are preaching to the choir, my friend.

I don't see any intention whatsoever from BMW to make an OEM retrofit of the new iDrive in older than MY2008 cars... I know as I have asked directly too many times for too many months and the answer is always just no.

Are you inferring that there is an intention from BMW to make an OEM retrofit for MY2008 cars? Mine's a June 2008 build and I just missed out on the new iDrive.

I should have stated in simpler terms that BMW has no intentions of doing an official CIC retrofit for CCC-equipped vehicles.

Well Technic, you've had it in your car for a while at least semi-functional. Is giving up voice-control and nav worth what you get as far as the new interface/HDD/other goodies or should we just stick with the old version and not bother with trying to fit this in at all?

The new GUI and high definition screen is simply better than the old iDrive, the rest of the features (HDD, DVD player, HD Radio) is frosting. So for somebody that wants to upgrade from an OEM HU this is more than worth it.

As an iDrive swap it is not worth it if the Navigation is not enabled, because a lot of really useful features -current and future- will be missing as well as the maps as they are directly linked to that activation. Voice Control is not a biggie, as BMW has not implemented the new Nuance system yet so there's no loss here.

There is a solution to enabling the maps, unfortunately it is not fully available in the USA. But the reason I did the swap was to test such solution in the USA somehow, so I would say that the swap is worth to me.

hmmm...I'd be coming from no navi at all...maybe if I can find a cheap CiC and screen i'd pull the trigger on this. Do you have have Assist? When I was ripping the FZD out of an o6 330i I noticed it had two MIC's in the FZD...I'm assuming one was for the navi and one was for the Assist. I dont know if this is true with the new CIC. I had to physically pull out pins and swap them around to get the MIC to work with my retrofitted Assist. I want to make sure if I do this retrofit with the CIC Nav that I still have "voice" control for my bluetooth phone calling and Assist.

As an upgrade to the OEM HU, this is definitely the best retrofit possible, as you will have a much better screen (size and definition), GUI and many more features than the OEM HU.

There will be no Voice Control in this retrofit unless you load the VC FSC, though.

I have not worked with my FZD so I don't know how many mic are really installed... I only see one mic grille there.

Retrofit/swap status:

Received this morning what it seems to be the real FSC files for Nav enable and 2010.1 Map update for my CIC; at least the FSC for the 2010.1 USA maps file information matches the P/N in the USA ETKA, so that looks good. The previous FSC received were for my CCC, sent by mistake; its file information contained a CCC P/N. The CIC FSC file information does not have any CCC P/N anywhere, so that's also looks good.

Will try loading these files some time next week to see if they actually work.

I cannot find the P/N for the Voice Control FSC to obtain those files, so if somebody knows please send PM with details.
