PlastiDip or Wrap?
Hey guys,
Been looking into this PlastiDip and it seems pretty for the price. Just unsure of its reliability and what not... So i was just wondering if anyone had any of this PlastiDip done to their car? Would get it or just pay the extra dollar for a full wrap? |

Depends on if you are thinking of doing it yourself. PlastiDip would probably be easier for DIY than wrapping the car in vinyl. You could always buy one can and try it out on a section to see of you're happy with the result. If you're not just peel it back off.

I would advise against wrapping a car matte white. mainly because a professional wrap will cost around $2500-3000 if you want a decent job.
I was very close to purchasing a matte white E82, but after about 10months of daily use (car was garaged day and night) the wrap looked dreadful. Even when the car was freshly washed it looked terrible, used and abused like it had been driven in the WRC... but each to their own! |

Thank's for the responses guys. This whole plastidip thing has me really curious, but it's just a thought for now.
I like the idea that you can diy and just peel it off with no worries. Might set out and buy a few cans and test it out before I go all out. |

Plastidip is good solid stuff. I've had it on my rims on my ford for a good year now and it's only a tiny little bit faded.
Vinyl wrap is a big big job to do as well, you need at least 2 people just for the small parts. However if you are going to be doing a whole car I would recommend getting it professionally wrapped. You wouldn't plastidip a whole car as it will be uneven in places, and if you don't do a thick enough coat it is hell to peel off. |

I got my 335i wrapped in matte black and haven't looked back since! As the others have mentioned though, it does cost $3k if you wanna get it professionally wrapped with no bubbles or peeling edges.

i'd only dip smaller things, but if you want to change the colour of the whole car then i'd go with wrap. you can DIY and it'll probably cost you around 1k or less for the wrap.

If you do the dip, do it properly, I had a soarer once that I impulse bought, neede paint work and didn't justify spending money on a paint job, so I bought cans of plastidip, was very easy and had the whole car sprayed within a day, looked great for the first month.
3-4 months down the track the bonnet faded and the promise of being able to be easily peeled off wasn't working...the car ended up being sold for parts but had I had my time again, id buy it in a bulk tin and do it properly using a spray gun. Wrapping is cool, but time consuming, I helped a mate do this to his skyline, lasts way longer but is a PIA process... |
