Im working with Dynavin right now to add a feature to the E90 firmware that the E46 and E39 versions already have....an option to reduce the output to better match certain version of the OEM amp. You CAN do a LOC if you like, it would be a "standard" car audio solution, cheap and easy....you just get a "wired" LOC (speaker wire in, speaker wire out) and put in in line on the speaker signal output wires (its all color coded, pretty easy), then adjust the level settings on the LOC as needed.

I was looking at the original thread and it looked like you had to remove some of the leather around the area where climate controls go.

Is this a direct bolt in without any modification? Or was that just for the prototype version?

Also does it for a 2013 e92? It's only listed till 2011 not sure why.

As shown in the original post there is some foam and a plastic tab that if trimmed off make for a better fit, these are INSIDE the dash, not on the visible part, and are not "structural", they have no purpose so removing them has no consequence except making a slightly better fit.

The F30 chassis started in 2012 so to avoid confusion we list them until 2011, but yes the M3, coupes, and verts continued on for differing amounts of time after that depending on the model. If its a E90, E92, or E93 the dynavin will work fine, regardless of year.

Just a quick update for those who want a bit of information around the ilink.

I have installed it and it works quite well actually. Just make sure your phone is not connected to bluetooth. Phone calls, messages, music etc work perfectly. Apps like Tunein radio work quiet well. I can now change the stations from the screen (rather than having to change it on the phone directly when I have been using bluetooth). Also i haven't noticed any loss in audio quality vs using bluetooth.

The only downside with the ilink is the screen quality. It is lower than the screen quality of the dynavin menu. I think this is because it using the Aux input so that limits the quality.

However for the money spent, I think this is a great addon for those who want to add carplay to there cars who already have a dynavin.

If you have a dynavin already the only other options of adding CarPlay to a BMW are:

1) Aftermarket headunit such as pioneer Pioneer
Pros
Higher Quality Screen
Cheaper
Cons
Non Oem look
Could be issues with integrating with BMW Can bus
Could be issues integrating with Logic 7 sytems

2) New BMW NBT headunit with CarPlay
Pros
Best Carplay Solution for BMW
Higher Quality Screen
Completely OEM
Cons
Cost of Retrofit (could be looking over £1500)

Based on the above options and how well the ilink works I am going to give it a 8/10. The only downside is the screen quality. Everything else works really well. I only use carplay now. If you have a dynavin already and have an iphone i think you would be silly not to get one of these.

Hope this helps anyone looking into purchasing one of these.

Thanks for the update. Yes please post more pics. I suspect that the resolution is limited to using the RCA video connection. However the screen on these units are 800x480 so i'm hoping it doesn't look that bad?

the "modifications" are minor. None of them keep you from being able to put the stock stuff back in if needed. Filing the clip mounts off the side of the HVAC controls is as close as you would get to having trouble going back....but so long as you only file them as much as needed and not completely off they will still work.

I've reverted back to stock when I sent my Dynavin in for the white screen issue. It's 100% like factory unless you did something extreme to your parts.

My Nav all of a sudden will not lock on to any satellites at all. Tried a hard reset but nothing. Has anyone had anything like this happen? Any suggestion or ideas would be appreciated.

early production units had a loose plug on the mainboard for the GPS, re-seating the cable would take care of it. I think it was talked about early in this thread? If its not that it could be a bad GPS antenna, the way the wiring is often run it can get crimped,pulled, etc... and break the connection. Either is a relatively easy fix.

Hey guys.
Over the last couple of days my dynavin unit has started to play up.
Now the hard buttons have altered functions....so the
Src button now open the nav
The mute opens Bluetooth
The radio turns the unit off.
I have tried the reset button and also factory reset.
Anyone have any ideas please.

Checking in to report that I'm not having any issues with Samsung S8 using A2DP, like others have reported in prior pages. Works perfect. I'm glad, because I was reluctant to leave iOS and now that I have, I'll never go back. Other than not having album art, it has same functionality as my iPhone did, and the phone functionality works just fine (it switches to phone and back to music source perfectly). I can't really tell any audio loss from direct cable, even though I'm sure there is in theory.
Three issues I am still having (Seeing if anyone has these):
1. Volume on radio is still too loud even when set at lowest setting in sources settings. It's either muted, or one click on the volume increase is too loud to hold casual conversation in car. I wish there was an "in between". It's not LOUD, but it still is too much, relative to other inputs.
2. Sometimes, and I can't replicate what is causing it, when I switch to radio, it comes on at full volume and blows my ears out, and volume control becomes inactive. I have to shut off power and then turn back on headunit. It doesn't happen often, but it happens enough that I have to be ready every time I switch to radio, in case it does, especially with my kid in the car, because it scares the snot out of her.
3. Before the firmware update, my FM radio stations had the station logo images from my mini card come up when I switched to FM radio. After the firmware update, in order for them to show I have to remove and push back in the SD card, then they come right back up again. I haven't reformatted the card or anything because there is a ton of media on it and I don't want to have to reload everything back on it.
I'm guessing many don't notice or have these issues because they don't listen to the radio much, but I still listen to talk sports and one morning show here and there, so it'd be nice if I can find a fix.

*Jeff or anyone- Does anyone have link to how to put the radio station images on the mini-card so they auto-populate when the radio is chosen? I may delete that folder and rebuild it to see if that helps, but I can't find the instructions to do it. TIA

You dont really need to delete one but if you need to its in the bluetooth settings menu, when you are on the phone screen there is a settings icon on the bottom of the screen.

Dear Jeff, I have a dynavin e8x radio, this when updating the firmware was left with the blank screen, but functional, I mean the radio keeps ringing and has touch sensitivity so I think it is a software problem since it does not have The symptoms some people say about having some cold solder, is there any way to do a reinstallation of the software from scratch or completely?

jeffb335 since this weekend my bluetooth started to fail, i can make phone calls but i cant hear music or any sounds thats coming from bluetooth.

when i play music, it shows the current song but then looks like the reception is lost or something, i cant hear anything, and the steering wheel controls doesnt work either to skip the song, but i still can use the volume button (even if i cant hear anything) and all the other buttons too.

I updated the firmware today in the morning and still happening.

I already reset the blurtooth on the unit and on my phone too (forget this device and all that..)

Did you reboot your phone (assuming iphone, hold down the home and lock buttons for 10 seconds/until it reboots)
