I won't make my response political, when an officer dies at work or as a result of work related injuries/illness it is considered "in the line of duty". You can ask yourself if the officers in question were not at work would they have died anyway?

In Canada now, police officers who commit suicide are often recognized as dying of a work related incident or illness, the numbers are pretty high actually. And firefighters who die of many forms of cancer are considered to have died in the line of duty.

Policing is an inherently risky job, the toll is physical and psychological and sometimes fatal. I can tell you that after 30+ years of policing I feel it everyday physically and sometimes emotionally.

If you care to look at the website a bit more you can go back and search different years. I was surprised by the number of COVID related deaths for 2021. Hope this is helpful.

About four years ago in Miami a State Trooper pulled over a city/metro squad car for speeding along the FL turnpike and I believe the trooper arrested the officer.

For the officers in here, in your many years of experience, have you pulled over another squad car?

Absolutely never! When I was with the CHP, I did once pull over an undercover/unmarked Sheriff vehicle. Verified credentials and he was on his way.

I would love to know how the trooper justified that arrest. There must've been more to it because the mere act of speeding wouldn't even be enough to justify a traffic stop on a marked government vehicle. We don't share communications, so there are 101 reasons why that vehicle may be traveling in excess of the posted speed.

IMO, the stop was justified; conduct after is a bit iffy.

In all it's glory.

I respect the profession as well as all other public servants but you gotta admit posting a pic like the one above (not that you did it) is not helpful. Not only political but also straight up dishonest.

You are technically correct but we are not in the Demon business. We leave that to the psychiatrists. However, my partner and I are trained in psychology and can deal with little devils.

We had a wonderful evening and the boys were chatty about the politics and bullshit at work. They were just rookies when the murders occurred in Moncton and it still bothers them. The Memorial Anniversary is this Friday.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moncton_shootings

We were also at the receiving end of some pretty funny stories from their day to day patrols to end the evening.

TTFN. Off to work.

It's a bit of a meme really and it also clearly has political undertones and not very subtle ones at that. I was simply providing you with the information you asked for.

What scares me the most is that a police officer with 6 years on the job pulled over on the left (median) shoulder and not the right shoulder. I'm also seriously worried that a Florida Highway Patrol officer with 20+ years on the job and her backup in the opposite direction lanes are not demonstrating exemplary roadside safety.

I don't work in law enforcement, but know that you are supposed to pull over to the right shoulder! I'm also pretty sure that officers here in NY State are trained about not standing outside a stopped patrol car because of drivers distracted by cell phones as well as those who become target-fixated and collide with patrol cars using flashing strobe lights.

In case anyone was wondering how this story ended, here's a TV news summary:

I was trying to downplay the literal and figurative shit that was thrown as a result of this specific case. I didn't defend the MPD officer's conduct during review and subsequent investigation and criticized the union's attempts in doing so. On the trooper's performance, outside of some minor procedural missteps that are not worth mentioning, the only part that bothered me then (and still does) is shown in the video I linked from 7:40 - 7:45. It's hard to put in words; those 5 seconds just don't sit right with me for some reason.

Is it because she had her gun pointed at him?

I would have done the same until the threat level was fully understood. Hate to second guess the trooper but seems to me she let her guard down too soon. Assume the worst and pray for the best.
