Rear Stock Shocks Noise/Question

I recently jacked up my car to check the tires. I noticed both sides of my rear suspensions looked like this. Looks like the rubber dampening piece has torn (not sure what this part is called).

Can this part be replaced?

Thanks for helping out a newbie.

This is the bump stop. It can be replaced. How many miles on the suspension?

I have a 2007 E93 with close to 60k miles. Is it normal to replace the bump stops at this mileage? Thanks again for your help.

I wouldn't say it's normal for the bump stop to tear at 60k miles, but it's probably more about age at this point (your car is 11+ years old.) That part is some sort of foam rubber. Depending on the conditions in which the car has lived its life, "squishy" parts may have a reduced lifespan.

You can pick up a whole shock mount hardware kit for around $80 for both sides. You've got the car jacked up -- that's half the work right there. Pull out the trunk liner, unbolt the shock from the top, unbolt the shock from the bottom, compress shock by hand, pull shock out, replace old bits with new, assembly is the reverse of disassembly. A pass-through socket set would be handy for this job.

Here's the parts diagram for reference: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=33_1353

If your budget allows, replace items in red. You're removing everything anyways, why do the job twice.
Trust me these are all dried up.

If you don't have the cash for the shocks then definitely replace 3, 6, and 7.

Mileage isn't the only factor! Is 11-12y old heavy convertible. Replace the shock with the mounts and bump stop.
