k+dcan coding cable not working on 09
Hello all. i have a 06 e90 330i and my firends 09 e90 328i
i have a blue clear coding cable and it works great with my o6 with inpa and ncs. doesn't work on 09 though. once plugged in, inpa only shows battery, no ignition. 7-8 were soldered, i unsoldered it and i put a switch. no change. i also disconnected the switch so 7-8 are seperated, but no change. 06 works with or without 7-8 connected togather. maybe i'm missing something everything works in 06, but not in 09 i tried dcan utility, but i get timeout on both cars. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Hey guys. So tried this new cable. No go
I connected it to the 09 and it errors. With inpa and ncs. Tried dcan tool and it errors. I connected to my 06. All works again. I used dcan tool to switch to dcan and it says ok. But still works on my 06 and not on 09. Looking thru the case, 7-8 are not connected. Anyone have any ideas? |

Do you have teamviewer installed? I could take a look at this if you want. |

That particular cable in my experience has about a 50% success rate. From what I have seen there are 3 versions of k+dcan cables. One version has a white PCB, two screws inserted on either side, a huge transistor, and a small thin wire running from pin 1 to the PCB. It is the least reliable with a 50% fail rate. The second also has a white PCB but all 4 screws are inserted on the same side. The transistor is smaller and a solid lead runs from pin 1 to the board just like the rest of the leads. I see about 25% of these test bad. The third is nearly identical to the previous type but it uses a green PCB. I have never seen one like this fail. One stop electronics uses the connector and PCB from the third type with a higher quality USB cable which is black and has a gold plated USB connector. Again, these numbers are based on my experience and are not scientific, i.e. environmental conditions were not controlled but cable configurations and the connection test with the car were consistent.

Also the quality of the plastic connector on the OBD side of the connection is better then the other cheaper cables. The plastic is thicker and looks less likely to crack then the others sold on eBay that cost significantly cheaper.

thanks for the info. didn't know the different type
this one has a black wire from pin 1 and a white board. 2 hex screws on each side. i'll see if the transistor is big or small. i'm thinking of just returning it and getting one from a member that has tried it on 09+ or from onestop. i'm hoping from a member if it's a good idea? |

I have the OneStop Electronics K+DCAN. It's been working very well thus far on my 2009 M3.
I actually just posted one of mine for sale if you're interested. It is much pricier than the ones on EBay though.
