themnmd,

Thanks, and you're quite welcome! History is always a good thing to keep in mind--and to learn from. And it's even scenic, more often than not!

Rick
I wish I had the time to take a drive like that. Again thanks for the history and photos.

Mark,

It's great that (i) your Mom's doing well and (ii) you can go back and visit your childhood home.

I'd love to visit the house where I grew up in Frederick, MD and see how my memories stack up against the real thing, but it's been owned by other families for decades now. I drive by once in a while, just to make sure it's still standing.

Rick
I agree, she will be here in September- will take her to some new places in the area- Washington's Crossing and maybe through Delaware!

My pleasure, and I hope you had a chance to finish reading the report!

Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us, as well as the dedication towards capturing and editing the amazing photos! You rock!
n0de,

Wow, thanks much!

I thoroughly enjoy researching the places I tour and writing them up for the forum. The photos are sometimes challenging, since I tend to blitz through each area on a tight schedule, and often the sun is behind the subject (or otherwise unhelpful).

The best part is when I run across a road with an interesting name, like "Roundhouse Road" or "Old Mill Road." They all have to be investigated, of course, and roughly half the time there actually is something there that matches the name.

I'm still hoping to find "Pot of Gold" road or anything similar…

Rick

Take care friend and be careful!
Eli
Eli,

Good to hear from you, and I'm glad you enjoyed the report.

My wife has been to the Philippines, but I have not. These days, the Philippines might be a little more interesting than necessary, but I hope you have a great visit.

As for drones, I have a little one that I really enjoy. It has a camera, but it's really too basic for good photos or video. And the drone is so light that any minor breeze will whisk it away into a treetop, swamp, or other unreachable place. (I'm on my second one.)

I've been tempted to get one of the "real" drones, like a DJI or such, and I probably will one of these days. The ability to get aerial shots would be fantastic.

All the best,

Rick

joludo,

Thanks!

Almost anywhere in the U.S. can be a great place for touring, but the eastern side really rocks with history. Everyone makes fun of New Jersey (e.g., "this is the time of year that they repave New Jersey"), but the state is full of beautiful and interesting areas. I could return to the Pine Barrens every year and never run out of fascinating places to see.

Happy travels,

Rick

BAB,

Thanks for the recommendation on Operation Mincemeat--I'll check it out.

I didn't realize that BMW was moving to cloth-tops only on convertibles. They have advantages in terms of simplicity and space utilization, but the hardtop convertibles are great for year-round use, especially if that's your only car. And you can put the top down right away after it stops raining, rather than having to wait until the cloth dries out.

adc,

Thanks! I'm really glad that your whole family enjoyed the write-up. For me, the trip was one fun and interesting place after another, with associated stories that support the idea that "truth is stranger than fiction."

Rob,

Yeah, with all the demands of everyday life, it's tough to get away for a tour. Maybe start small, with a morning or afternoon drive? However you get there, it's well worth the effort!
