This is insane! My local petrol/diesel station, is increasing its prices every week!!
Standard unleaded 2 weeks ago was at 105.7, then 107.5 the following week! Today I had to pay 110.5!!

Its getting real depressing to see the COST display inch further and further away from the LITRES display while u fuel the car up!!

I say take a couple of barrels to ur local and fill up! This is only going to get worse!

ONE QUESTION: Will the price of fuel ever fall again?

P.S. Darling is certainly no darlin'!

I read it will be going up another 5p a litre by the bank holiday

About time they reduced the tax to compensate wouldn't you say. After all, the justification for high fuel taxes was to artificially keep the price high for 'environmental' reasons. So now it's high all on its own, they could take 30p a litre off again. But they won't, because the environment wasn't the reason in the first place, just the usual cynical targeting of motorists as a revenue stream.

Filled up on the way to work this morning at the Shell garage @ Baldock services (Baldock is on the Herts/Beds border for those that don't know it).

Optimax was a shocking 122.9p per litre

Admittedly this specific garage are a bunch of robbing f*ckers anyway (20 Marlborough is £6.04 a pack), but I'm thinking that nearly £5.60 a gallon is taking the Michael.

Thank God for the hallowed fuel card.

At least Dick Turpin had the good grace to wear a mask.

Another 5p a litre

I know oil is $120+ a barrel but this is artificially high due to the weak dollar anyway and I guess in real terms it's still under $100 a barrel, if I could be bothered to research it.

Fact is we don't need to study oil prices to know we are getting fleeced.

This is quite simply beyond the joke!

Not quite up to Viv's standard, but every 'apprentice' has to start somewhere

Maybe I should have put 'suck on those.....' thereby the implication would be more apparent. But yes, you're right Steve.

No fear of 'a one shot wonder' with those two eh.

Ps Steve, 'spelling' is spelt with double 'l' or was that a very clever play on words?

Obviously the price gap is narrowing but does everybody buy a car based on costs alone?

Of course they don't otherwise we wouldn't have bought a 335d for starters. We liked the lazy way it delivered its performance and the fact that we're not in a filling station more often (filling up is a time consuming pita). In our case we wanted an auto anyway making the cost difference between a 335i less.

I don't really feel the need to scream an engine around to the red line anymore, well not in the car, but I can allways wind the bike up to 16,000RPM if I get the odd frustrated urge.

Regards

Chris

Since I'm seriously considering replacement (somehow) of the current "Friday car"....I'm constantly debating (with myself!) the merits of the 320i v. 320d......

The 320i really meets my needs very well in being very cheap on BIK taxation while still being a reasonable drive....the 320d obviously has extra oomph (potentially quite a bit extra) but I'm really not "sold" on 4 cyl diesels.....maybe the auto gives it enough extra refinement....but then its down to the fuel cost.....

Got fed up? Or....????

Oh and btw....you're not wrong with your suggestions....if I sell the Lotus then thats the kind of route I'll follow....but then, will either of those feel special enough???!!

With the 320i costing less than £100/month ( ) for the current usage (commuting and family transport) its really hard to justify spending more......

Wait a minute ... SELL THE LOTUS

BUT WHY ???????????

Take it from me ... a 330d or 335d or 330i or 335i WILL NOT feel anywhere near as 'special'.

I reckon you have the perfect arrangement.
