how many miles are on your track car?

I'm not 100% an expert on tracking and hard use. I baby my car .. but i do daily it I have 117k on it.

At some point I may turn it into a race car (either drag or track). I'm wondering if mileage is a concern?

I have 115k on mine, will be doing rod bearings and walnut blasting. Wastegates are not rattling yet, so I'll give it hell until it does.
Both the bearings and blasting are being done as preventative measures as I have not had any indication of malfunction.

that's killer .. can't believe u don't have wastegate rattle.

i keep asking myself what can fail on these motors ... aside from doing preventative maintenance and stuff just trying to figure out what could really kill it as long as you keep taking care of it.

Lack of preventative maintenance is what kills BMW engines for the most part, gradually replace plastic parts with metal ones like the radiator.

Recommend contacting Blackstone Labs for an oil sample collection kit. Commercial and Military aviation have used oil analysis for decades to monitor engine wear. Blackstone can also recommend oil change intervals based on your oil analysis. FWIW, I have 265,000 miles on my 2008 N52. I’ve done 25 track days during the past two years.

I love hearing that.

I have been researching a lot more about this topic. Previously I just believed engines could just "blow up" at a certain mileage ... now i'm trying to figure out what actually wears on a motor.

I can understand failure when a component fails or if something gets into the motor.

Stock at 68k with 4 track days on it, in the last 20k miles i have replaced the following.

OFHG, oil pan gasket, walnut blast, plugs/coils, waterpump, thermostat, HPFP.

Im hoping nothing else brakes in the next year or so, debating a dinan tune since they are only $600 now or upgrading to an M with better suspension.

86k on my 135i. 10 days over 2 years, car just spun a bearing on it's 11's day. May have been user error with a recent install, but tracking at my mileage I would have rod bearings and oil analysis done. While the pan is out a baffle is also a good idea.

N54s should add a oil pressure gauge. N55 has oil pressure monitoring out of the box and can be logged on MHD.

how bad was replacing the oil pan gasket?

what causes a spun bearing? and how do you know you spun it? ... would you recommend the n55?

It wasn't bad since my extended warranty covered it. I think i paid a couple hundred bucks at the time since they didn't cover the oil filter and oil and a few other random bits there needed to be replaced.

I was very hesitant to get the extended warranty but it has saved me a lot of money, im probably one of the few success stories.
