Let them be mad. Doesn't matter. People talk shit about other peoples cars and that will never change. All about being in a specific car "gang".

I chose the 335i over the NEXT GENERATION M3 because I don't think the best guesstimates on the new M3 specs are impressive enough to justify another $20-$25K for street use. When I do a small bit of tuning to the 335 (exhaust, chip, lsd...or about $5K) I'll be within spitting distance of the new M3 street (not track) performance-wise, and way ahead in terms of everyday usability.

I'm not dissing on M3 owners, current or future, M3's are fantastic track weapons, I'm just saying there ARE reasons for the 335i being so highly regarded.
I'd like to echo this post. In many ways an m3 compromises practicality rather than a 335i purchase compromising performance.

But also comparing current 335i to e46 m3 is perfectly valid considering the fact that you can walk into a BMW dealer today and buy an M3.

Right now the top of the line 3-coupe has 300hp while the top of the line 3 convertible has only 225hp. For over a year the 330i coupe had only 225 hp while the 330i sedan had 255hp. And right now the gap between the m3 and regular 3 series is getting smaller.

Someone looking for a sporty 2-door BMW right now doesn't care that there will be a new M3 in a year. They are looking for a car now and their two door options are a 225hp/360hp/500hp convertible or a 300hp/333hp/360hp/500hp coupe. In that mix are ///Ms and regulars but that IS THE CURRENT BMW LINE UP.

Who says an M3 is every 335i owner's dream car?
What M mystique?
Sounds like a personal problem to me.

I've found the E46 M3 Coupe to be a fine combination of every day urban driving, long distance road trips - it's an excellent cruiser, and the occasional driver's school or autocross.
And, it's by no means the only BMW product that can be used for all of these purposes.

Your choice of a 335i is fine. However, your claim that an M3 is a fantastic track weapon with limited every-day useability is not true. You don't have to justify your purchase of a 335i by creating myths about other cars. All you have to do is simply like the 335i best.

My point in my earlier post, and here, is that both cars are fine products - each with their unique characteristics.

Long live the e46 M3, until the new E9x models rain on its parade!

The performance wars are reminiscent of what happened during the muscle car era. Fun fun fun!

Re-read this thread for your answers on "who says"

As for the M3, if you consider a stiffly sprung, peaky, 2dr coupe a daily driver, then more power to you. However, I am nowhere near the first nor last reviewer or owner to consider the M3 to be limited as a daily driver.

Methinks thou doth protest too much!

You mean the old M3. Newest M3 year is 2006, 335i oldest year is 2007.

Same argument. Not the same year cars.
