Talking Do it yourself cowl filters

What does everyone think?

Got bored today so grabbed the junior hacksaw and set about my pollen filter housing 😂 not the neatest of jobs, Im going to revisit and tidy them up when Ive got a spare 30 mins. Used the OEM pollen filter and pre fabbed it to fit

You cut the stock filter to fit in the opening? Pretty sure the point of the BMS filters is to keep water from entering the cabin with the rubber edge they come with.

Yes, I left the upper part of the housing overlapping this to direct water off the filter

Do you have any issues with the oem filter falling in? Or are you using some sort of adhesive to keep it in place? I did this a little while ago and had that issue

RAT ROD?? Lol

I used duck tape on the inside to hold the filters in. No issues yet, washed it, driven it hard.

You know BMS offers cowl filters that install in the factory location?

This is great, I wish I thought of this instead of buying some from bms
These DIY things always seem to be more fun too

Yeah, well, some things should just be bought. No offense to the OP, it's great that people try stuff like this and post it for the world to see, but...

Personnaly, i just leave the cabin filter plastic housing with the filter but with the cowl removed... so 4 screws instead of 6.. it hold very well.

Benefits : you can work easily in the engine bay, removing the filter housing is 2 minutes..

It's just maybe a lil more quiter than BMS cowl filters in the cabin but way louder than with the cowl.

Thanks for the idea and fun DIY! Came out better than just leaving the filter housing on there. I tried to make it as symmetrical as I can, but it's not perfect. I ended up painting it to get rid of the white plastic marks after trimming it. I also painted the cover of the box (top left of the engine) since I had extra paint.

I love these DIY solutions. Can you put up some more pics on how you made them?

I’ll pop some up for you when my foam air filter arrives, I’m going to swap it over from the standard cabin filter, save chopping it up
