Alpine pdp-e800dsp opinions?

Hi all,

As the title says, I'm currently weighing up the multitude of audio upgrade options available to me and have stumbled upon the Alpine PDP-E800DSP. Just wondering if anyone has this fitted to their E91 BMW and their opinion on it?

I have the HIFI system in mine and was debating the JL XD600/6 with technic harness but don't know whether this could be a better option.

Cheers dudes!

Lots of manufacturers are coming out with these multi channel
DSP amps now. Helix (audio tech fisher ) seem to be the one
that led the charge with ones that had a decent amount of power
per channel . This one has good power per channel . There is more
support out there on the Helix's in term of how to tune and support right
now I believe. They all seem to cost between 800 an 1500 US.

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of mention of them. Would just prefer something that’s easier to get in the UK. Also trying to find dimensions to see if it’ll fit where the original amp sits.

Still in two minds though, I feel like the dsp will be too much for me to mess around with. I only really want something a bit louder a clearer for listening to hip hop and dance!

Good point well presented! That’s my mind changed. Notice a lot of people talking about the pp 62 and 86dsp but noticed they do a match up 7BMW which is a direct plug and play for the hifi system which I like the sound of. Next question, is it really worth upgrading rear speakers?

No
although it should be pointed out they are 2 ohm which
means you may have to turn any gains to zero and still
fade them if you have significant power.

you might put some cheaper speakers in with a better
power rating is the point.

Ok cool. I was debating some Match MS 42C-BMW 1, 2 way system (4 ohm, 60w) for the rear. Although these are abut £150 so not sure if that's over kill? Then sticking Focal 100KRS's (4 ohm, 50w RMS) up front with SWS8's under the seats and the match up 7BMW amp. Does that sound like a reasonable setup?

Also really appreciate the responses! If you were in England I'd buy you a beer haha.

I am sure that will sound great.
Although I am not a Fan of Focals as they tend to
be harsh and don't have as much low end as some of
the others in the 4 inch size at least.

I also favor Jehnert XE-200' for under seats as it has more accuracy
and better midrange.
If you are biased towards bass you might like the SW better.

BMW 7 has a lot of power per channel be sure you take that into
account. Also the BMW7 has an extra channel as it was targeted
for the F30 hi fi which has a center dash channel.

86dsp is pretty plug and play to 8 channels not quite as much power.
You could go active on the fronts with that.

I installed the AF Match 7UP BMW in my e91 with 676 HiFi last week. Easiest install, ever, and a huge positive change. I wouldn't even look at other options, unless you plan on going full custom (re-wiring the tweeters to be on their own channel, things like that)...

I also have an AF Helix V Eight in a different car, and the DSP software is the same on the Match amp. I really can't say enough good things about it.

Good point about the power! I've been reading in to this for a couple of weeks now and I'm learning new stuff every day.

I'll ponder a bit more and hopefully come to a decision. Although I'm like a woman shopping for shoes with stuff like this, I change my mind every two minutes lol.

Anyway thanks for your input ctuna, your help is greatly appreciated!

Well that’s my mind set then! You still running standard speakers with the BMW 7 amp?

Yes, at this point, I am. It sounds much better than the stock 676 amp. Much, much better.

A-F supplies a DSP tune to load on the amp for the stock speakers. It's done reasonably well & is a great starting point.

I actually also have the Match upgrade speakers for the front mids/tweeters, rear mids & the underseat woofers as well, but haven't installed them yet. I'm waiting for it to get a little cooler in Houston before I do it. I'll have to install the speakers (door panels off, seats out) and then do a new DSP tune as well (since the supplied one is for the stock speakers). So I haven't bothered yet, since it's 100000 degrees outside here still. Usually I would have done this immediately, but with the amp swap alone, the system is pretty darn good as it is...

Still using the stock speakers. I bought all the Match replacement speakers as well, but haven't bothered installing them yet. I'm waiting until Fall in Houston. The amp swap made enough positive change that I'm OK waiting....

Wish it was 100000 degrees here lol! Pretty much winter now.

You'll have to let me know how it all sounds together when you finally get around to fitting everything. The Match subs are higher power than the SWS8s so pretty tempted to buy a set for mine. And I'm still debating between the Match speakers and the Focals for the front. They're near enough exactly the same spec, just use different materials. But for the price of one set of Focals I could buy 2 sets of the Match speakers...
