2011.5 - A2DP without iDrive?

Hi:

I have a 2011.5 car with Bluetooth and iPod connector. I do not have iDrive.

Bluetooth works fine with my Samsung Focus for calls, yet I can not get A2DP - Bluetooth streaming to work, or even be recognized as an option.

Others with iDrive have gotten it to work. Is iDrive a prerequisite for A2DP?

No... you should have received a separate radio manual that shows how to enable Bluetooth Audio in your OEM HU.

Please assume I read all the manuals. Radio manual does not address Bluetooth, and the Bluetooth manual just says:
"Depending on your mobile phone and the equipment in your vehicle, you can play the music stored on a mobile phone in your vehicle, refer to the Owner's Manual for Vehicle."

Are you commenting because you know something or just telling me to RTFM? I did read, and search. A2DP comes on 2011.5 on, so relatively few cars so far.

No, I'm commenting because that Radio manual pdf is not on bmwusa.com, nor there are any updated pdf manuals with Bluetooth Audio in them (iDrive or not).

So my assumption was that your car should have come with the updated Radio manual, which should show Bluetooth Audio in one of the source selections, right there with USB, Satellite Radio and AUX.

You think? Well the Manual I have is dated July (VII) 2010 and it does not make a reference to blutooth streaming. :-(

I have a neighbor with iPhone 4, and I will try that as well. So far my conclusion is that you shall not get a BMW without iDrive. At least on the M3 there are so many other settings that that iDrive allows you to access that I can not touch. EDC, full configuration of M Mode, etc.

This is now clearly a decision I regret. I ordered $1,500 worth of options that the $2,900 premium package has included and would have gotten alarm and keyless start to boot.

One thing I had to do with my 11.5 WITH idrive was to pair the bluetooth audio with the car. I thought audio streaming just work because I'd already paired my phone with the car, but the audio part is one other step that was not in my manual.

I hope you can figure it out, good luck!

Can you see "Bluetooth Audio" as one of your source selections?

Technic - thanks for sticking here with me. Just got back from a shop after having Akrapovic installed and then I swapped winters on the car. My iPhone neighbor is not home yet...

Anyway, on my stereo after hitting "Audio" I see: Tuner, CD, AUX, USB

Under AUX I have a single option to adjust input volume, and when I press USB it says to insert a USB device.

I know that people with iDrive have to enable Bluetooth Audio by selecting it or turning it on under Audio options... but as you know I do not have iDrive. Argh!

(Let me torque my wheels before I forget!)

There is no iDrive requirement for Bluetooth Audio in the OEM documentation that I have. If you have the Combox then Bluetooth Audio is somewhere there.

Is there another way of checking if I have Combox? 10/10 build.

Look under your trunk floor cover and you should see a single module, grey in color. The TCU, the Sirius tuner and the MULF/USB modules have been eliminated, so there should be a single module on the left side of the trunk metal floor.

If you see two modules -Bluetooth and USB options- then there's no Combox.

Looks like a combox to me... right? On the E92 M3 seems to be on the right side.

(I also ordered the Bavarian Tool pro version so I can do my own coding. Will see if that uncovers anything.)

Frustrating, and I wish I got the iDrive...

Not sure if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I think I found BMW's answer. I have been banging my head trying to figure this out. I have an iPhone 4 and M3 Sedan built in December of 2010.

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...y/default.aspx

If you follow the "View currently available phones" and fill out the form for 3 series, whatever body style, att&t, apple, iphone 4 you will be taken to a page that displays information about what Bluetooth features are supported. The page defaults to a "Navigation Preparation" option and if you change it to the "BMW Radio Preparation" option the results are quite different.

Many features are removed, including the Playing Audio track for Bluetooth.

I interpret that to mean no dice for those of us without iDrive.

Yes, that's it.

BT Tool is not going to do the kind of coding that you are looking for. This will: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=451145

Technic-

I have an off topic question regarding coding. With the cable you link to is it possible to change the coding of the Professional Radio from base to HiFi? I have a 2011 e92 with the base stereo and I would like to upgrade the under seat subs and front speakers. If I recode to radio I could do away with the Cleansweep or MS-8 right?
Thanks

I tired to search that thread but with over 1000 replies it's hard to find the answer.

Yes, that's what I use to code my iDrive CIC audio outputs. I added the coding to the database spreadsheet in that thread.

I take this to mean you were successuful? You were in fact able to code your 2011 test car?

So did anyone figure out if BT audio streaming works on a non-iDrive, combox equipped car?
