Is there this gap in oil cooler inlet/outlet piping?
I have a stock 2009 335i with factory oil cooler thermostat on the oil filter housing pump. Today, I replaced the oil filter housing gasket and the heat exchanger gasket.
But I had to separate the oil cooler lines first. When I put it back, I could not get the entire cylinder piping to completely go in, or I don't remember if it completely goes in. Does anyone know? There is a 2-3 mm gap there and if anyone can remember to tell me if this is normal or not ? I tried to torque it down as best as I could and it wouldn't move any further without seriously breaking it. Thanks. |

Actually, I think I may have done it right. I found a picture I took of the inlet/outlet holes.
You can see that the rubber grommet sits on top of the outer edge and now on the side (like a oil filter housing cap). If the entire silver cylinder were to go in like I originally thought, then that would defeat the purpose of the rubber o-ring since there is no seal and you can see the rubber seal is a lot smaller in diameter than the silver lining around it. So it probably makes sense that it didn't go all the way because it's not designed it. I couldn't tell at first because these fittings were very dirty and I had just cleaned them up. |

Guys, I checked the bentley manual, and there doesn't seem to be any gap.
For those of you who have a 2009+ 335i with the stock oil cooler, can you guys take a picture for me of the first picture and tell me if it sits flush and lined up? I'm going paranoid here. I may have to go back this weekend to try to correct it but I want to make sure that this is or isn't correct. |
