Thumbs up [SYDNEY DRIVE DAY] 1Addicts + E90Post + E46 Fanatics

Well it's on again, another epic annual drive with our brothers at 1Addicts and E46 Fanatics.

You will need to confirm prior to October 27th so we can advise our lunch location of seating requirements.

I'm helping out Taymaishu and johnca with this as we're all working together. Our nominated contact people are:

1Addicts - Tay
E90 Post - SBC
E46 Fanatics - John

Full Details

Date: Sunday, November 27th 2011
Time: Meeting @ 8:30am for a 9am start

1. Meet at Homemaker Centre carpark at Norwest Business Park
2. Cruise up to Windsor, and then onto Wilberforce/Singleton and Putty Road.
3. Cruise Putty Road, all the way to the north western Hunter Valley.
4. Turn right in Mount Thorley and head to Branxton.
5. Turn right in Branxton to Wine Country Road, and we will be having lunch in Pokolbin area.

More route info:

Estimated time to the Hunter Valley is around 3.5 to 4 hours. It is a 2 hour drive home via the F3 through Cessnock.

Putty Road is by far one of the best roads at the moment in the NSW region. Recently resurfaced, it is safe, smooth and offers alternating driving environments from open plains to rainforests.

The road has recently been scouted by myself (on one of my famous 3am drives), and I am happy to say it will be enjoyed by all.

Coming into the Hunter offers a chance for everyone to enjoy the slower speed limits and take in everything on offer. This includes tops down for the verts!

Destination info:

The Hunter Valley is one of the prime tourist locations in NSW. Late November will provide a great opportunity for wine lovers to taste recent harvest releases and also gives us the best possibility for great weather without too much heat (you turbo boys will love it).

We'll be having lunch at a yet to be advised location, however it will be updated as soon as I receive confirmation.

What to bring?

1. Full tank of fuel
2. Your DSC
3. Radio if you have one. There is NO mobile reception for most of Putty Road. I HIGHLY suggest purchasing a CB handheld radio from DSE prior to the drive day.
4. Wife/kids/family/mates.
5. Camera

Route Map is attached, and full details can be found at http://g.co/maps/nwn7j
Meeting location can be found here: http://g.co/maps/t6wby

Might be interested, depends if I'm yacht racing or not so make me a TBC.

Won't be bringing the family if I do come as Alex needs a lesson in driving and the sound of kids hitting the windows on corners isn't pleasant

skip the racing. I can understand you not bringing the family this time considering you were the only one last time with kids lol.

Sounds like you can leave the Club Championship on the water, as you're definitely proposing the "Talk it Up Cup".

I'm keen - Putty is in good shape now and a return via the Wollombi Rd is fun.

Where for lunch? Harrigans Irish Pub, while no gourmet feast, is easy to get to, plenty of parking and space.

There are plenty of options. Harrigan's is very easy, however the surrounding roads are absolute sh*t at the moment. I have a personal connection to two wineries in the Hunter and i'm just trying to work out our best options.

Wollombi Rd is OK - except there is bridgework all the way along it. They're replacing the wooden plank bridges (such a shame, I love that area with those bridges), and so every single creek crossing has an automated circuit traffic light which is also sh*t. This was on a scout run last week and it was even frustrating at 2am.. God forbid we have 20+ cars and traffic lights every few kilometres.

LOL Sujoy - already looking forward to it.

And yes, that section of road just before Harrigans is abominable. Last did Putty/Wollombi in May and there was work happening then. How many creek crossings are there - I can only recall 2.

I think there are a total of three, IIRC. I could be wrong but somehow I remember three.

I'll probably visit a couple of my favourite wineries after lunch (Lakes Folly and Calais Estate), so perhaps we should keep the afternoon free and anyone who wants to join can or they can enjoy their own thing?

Would love to go back via Wollombi Rd though, the climb out of the valley is lush, to say the least
