Here it is. Let's say you enter an address and start guidance. Now if you have the entertainment screen on in the big window (left) and say the perspective map in the small window (right), and if you turned off voice commands, then you could miss your turns since the screen that tells you to turn left or right after xxx feet is not displayed. On the other hand, with guidance on, trying changing the small map to something else like current location or trip computer while the big window is still showing the entertainment screen; Now if a turns come up, the computer will momentarily replace whatever you have in the small window with the arrow display so you are aware of the upcoming turn. Also, even if you start guidance and hit the MENU button and go back to the main i-drive window, it will show you the turn when it is coming up and then go back to the home screen (i think it shows you the turn on the left big part of the screen in this case)...

So the issue is only when you have the map on the right and something else on the left that you might miss your exit since the arrow does not show up automatically.

lets say I have audio on main screen and "direction of travel" on right-side screen. If my route needs to exit the freeway...the right-side screen SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE TO "ARROW DISPLAY" ???????????

and will it go back to "direction of travel" after the "arrow display" has guided to exit ???

You are correct.

And this is one of those bugs in PRE 25.x PROGMAN that will warrant a FREE update to 25.1.1 (if you COMPLAIN that it bothers you). If that is what you were thinking.

I got my car back today - updated with 25.1.1. I had same COMPLAINT

Odd. Buddy of mine just took delivery of a brand new e92 335i and I was showing him how to use the nav. Never could get ANY voice command to work with spelling, much less just saying the name of the town/street. In fact, I saw no difference between his system and that in my wife's car, which has not yet been updated from the Progman installed back when she took delivery in Aug '05! All entries had to be done with the contoller knob. Very odd.

I took in my car today to get the update. My usual SA was not in...so I got a pinch hitter

I finally convinced him to do my update...but he was trying to tell me that he has 3 customer vehicles (anyone here???) that had 25.1.1 installed and VR was lost. I think he was trying to discourage me from getting it done...but I told him that I was pretty convinced it would be ok..AS LONG AS it was 25.1.1 that they were installing. He agreed to do it, with the understanding that I will not get mad if I lose VR. I told him, that I will take my chances if it is indeed 25.1.1

The car is at South Bay BMW till tomorrow. I will update once I pick up.

BTW...I was going to get the oil change done there..but they told me it was going to be $140 I got it done once before at BMW San Diego for $75. Guess I will make a quick stop there later this month, when I am visiting my parents.

What did you tell him was wrong with the car to get the update?

I explained the problem with my navigation assist window. No arrow display in small right panel during navigation. It is one of the complaints that can qualify you for the update.

Did you actually have this problem? I don't think I do, but am going to try and come up with some story so I can get it. Seems like if my car is only a week old I should get the latest version - at least thats what I think.

Give them hell if your VR isn't working after, for a fact 25.1.1's VR works. So if you get your car back w/o VR, then it's probably the lower version.

I do...but not all of the time. If I am getting directions to a particular destination...it will work, depending on the setting that the right panel is set to. For example...if you highlight the right panel, and press down on the idrive...you can change what is being displayed. If I select map view..to either current location. It will work with no problems. It will tell me where I am with long/lat for the most part. But when I need to make a left, take an offramp..etc, a pop up arrow menu comes in. It will tell you to turn or whatever in 1 mile, then 0.8....0.7..etc.

If however I am in some of the other settings....NO ARROWS! And since I turn off the navigation voice (irritates the heck out of me!)...I have to keep looking at the screen. And, at times...I have missed an offramp, or a turn because I did not realize that it was coming up. All I notice is the Nav recalculating! At first, I thought I was just being careless. But then I realized it was happening occasionally...because I do change what is on the right panel all of the time.

That is what I am thinking. I explicitly told him that I only want 25.1.1 and not interested in anything lower. He said that they HAVE IT, but he cannot guarantee that VR will work after it is done..because SUPPOSEDLY they have had this problem other customers and 25.1.1. He said I could always come back once the problem is rectified...but I told him, that I would prefer NOT to come back bacause of my work schedule. I told him I would prefer he tell me now that its going to be a lower version...so that I can just wait, rather than leaving the car twice. He said they have 25.1.1. I told him that I do not want another version of 25... so we will see.

Cool, this is a problem I can reproduce. If I have it set to trip computer or something non-map, I get the arrow. If I have the right window set to one of the maps I got no arrow pop up. Now I can feel confident in calling to get the update.

I called my dealer to schdule my ipod instal and the idrive update. I told them about the arrow display problem and that I'd heard there was an update for it and that I'd seen a service bulletin. He hadn't even heard of it and I had to give him the bulletin number so he could give it to the tech. Oh well, just so long as they get it updated. Its scheduled for this friday.

I was thinking of going to South Bay to get 25.1.1. Can you PM me your contact there? I do not want to go thru the whole explanation and argument if i can avoid it. Please update us as to how it went. Good luck with the VR.

Alright...here is the update!

Version 25.01.01 installed successfully! No problems with VR! The SA guy was totally surprised, because I had told him I was sure it would be ok and he was totally skeptical the entire time. The new nav screen looks great! I love the new color schemes...and it looks so much sharper!!! And now I can input name for searching items...very kewel. I just need to figure the commands to do this fast via VR!

They also fixed my rear squeak! They finally replaced the brake pads, and replaced the brake sensor! Let's see how long this lasts.

I got the 30,000 mile service done. It does not include an oil change. I WAS GOING to pay for it---since it would be out of schedule. But they wanted to charge me $140! I paid $75 last time at BMW San Diego. So....now I was planning to get it done in San Diego next time I go visit my parents later this month.

Lastly...they noticed another rattle from the rear of the vehicle which turned out to be the exhaust bracket-- I was not really aware of this...but it was replaced to get rid of the noice!!

The SA was very nice today...guess he was working the angle to get his 5's.
