any suggestions?
Harwire to the fuse box. It's a much more reliable source of power IMO..

Just my $0.02

PDC = park distance control.

Homelink = opens garage doors

Fuse # on fuse card will have icons of both. Homelink is a house with an arrow in it. PDC has an object (triangular IIRC) with waves bouncing off of it.

EDIT: found my pic from a while ago. Fuse is #28. Left side. Three up from the bottom.

are you refering to a setup similar to this?:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30100

i want to try to tape it down so that it won't move around, but i think if i did that, the housing won't close all the way...

Just did this today..finally had some warm enough weather to get out there and do it...

Great write-up..was easy to follow..even got the light out in 5 minutes or so.

One thing to add..skip the whole sanding of the hex bolt..just save yourself the time and go to Home Depot and get a #8 Hex head sheet metal screw...it fits into the existing hole where the referenced hex bolt is..works perfectly, no additional holes, and no sunroof cutout issue...

Thanks for the DIY Write-UP

Write up was great. But have a couple improvements!
Take off teh little plastic surrounding the map lights and remove the black map light rings. This gives you DIRECT access to the clips. utilizing a jewlers screwdriver press the clips to the left while pulling down gently with your hand on the front of the unit. this easily removes the map housing.
Also there is a T-20 screw on the passenger side. loosen this and install the ground wire there, Easily.
THanx for the write up!

guys great write up! just did this with my escort 8500 x50. ok the interior light is a BITCH! but it does come out, so if you guys are tackling this, keep trying. use the manual like some people say. also like blue330i just said take the map lights out. only problem i have is that my sunroof is acting screwy. wont go one touch and wont open up all the way. could my ground be messed up causing the sunroof to be screwy? i used the directwire kit by escort to tap right into the green/white wire of the sunroof. any help is much apprectiated!

Just make sure there arent any wires touching inadvertantly. If you take the one wire out that you tapped, try the sunroof again. If its still acting buggy its something else. Otherwise, you know its that specific tap.

I know the windows usually have to be reset after the power has been taken off. For them all you do it hold the window switch in the up position for about 5 seconds AFTER they have closed. The same might have to happen with the sunroof. Hold each setting (Open, tilt, close) for about 5 seconds after its finished that specific option. Then report back.

Thats how I ran mine(see pics above). If you need me to take more pics I will. Its much easier to run the wire through the headliner and down the a-pillar then tap into the fuse box then mess with the wires in the maplights.

OK OK did a re-initialization of the sunroof and BAM! it works now! just push the button that makes the sunroof go up, so the middle button for about 20-25 seconds. it will do all these tests. i kept the button held down til it was done to make sure it didn't lose power. thanks for all the help guys. here are some pics of the install:

this is what the clip looks like so dont be going nuts trying to pry it, its a clip so get the toolkit screwdriver and just unclip and pull down gently. a flat plastic tool will not really work so i dont understand how some are doing this:

we used the bundle to the right with the two yellow wires next to each other. we used a voltmeter to test which one and clipped on the 3M wiretap and boom thats it.

here is the final installed product. it looks great and has a great location to read.

thanks to all the first posters who made this possible. thanks again!
