My car should be in next week, and I plan to do this soon after I get it. Does the V1 get in the way of moving the driver's visor? Hard to tell from the pics.

Hopefully, its a mechanical failure, not an update issue. then they'll fix it for free.

I just finished with this procedure for an Escort Passport 7500. A couple of key comments that I would like to give.
1. I used a butter knife to unclip the dome lamp assembly. I found that I needed to hold the knife close to perpendicular to the windshield (angled) to get to the clips. If I would have known this, it would have saved time. 2. I initially tied into a Yellow/White wire toward the rear of the hole. The procedure shows the harness loom at the front of the hole. I figured it was the same wire until I tied into it. I found out that rear wire has 8 volts all the time. You definately need to tie into the front loom, as shown in the pictures. Other than these two things, the procedure was very good. Figuring out the clips was the toughest part. Took about 35 minutes while being very careful. |

I know this is late after most of the thread, but I just followed this for my E92 335i. Worked like a charm and took about 30 mins...it helped to have a mirror and flashlight to look at the clips for the lighting assembly. Other than that, quick wire job, then clean up and getting everything where I want it. I also used the motor 10mm torx screw for the ground and so far so good with no cutout of power when I use the sunroof.
Happy motoring!

My BMW dealer installed my V1 for me here in Utah. I had my car in for a service update and installation of the ipod interface... and he had the guy throw in the V1 kit for me for an install charge of about $80 i think. Pretty slick because if i have any probs i can just go back to him...

That's a very slick looking install, and a great DIY post. Richwm, did you go with the remote display because detectors are illegal in California and you didn't want the detector on your windshield lighting up? If not, I'm confused by the desire to use the remote display with a V1. You still have to have the V1 installed up on your windshield so it can "see" rader/laser from front and back.

wow i cant beleive i didnt hardwire my v1 a lot earlier...
alawys thought it wud be too hard for a young gun like me to figure out and install cuz of all the wires, grounding, n wat not but glad i took a stab at it and saved myself 50 or so dollars was actually fairly easy, took 30 mins once i knew wat i was doing. hardest part was seeing wat the hell i was doing in the dark. note if ur gonna do this in ur garage at night with minimal lighting, it helps to have someone hold a flashlight for ya lol ... a lil bro perhaps

i just wondering if any one had the same problem like me with the v1 shorting out?
everything is done correctly and it works fine majority of the time, but sometimes it just won't come on or just turns off...when that happens, i just give the roof panel a little bump, and presto, it comes back on! but now i just won't turn back on any more.. i remember this happen to me last time before so i had to redo everything..when i redid it, i noticed that the blue plastic (the thing you use to tap into the power supply) had to be a certain angle before it got cut off.. any suggestions? |
