Multimeter assistance

Gentlemen,

I'm not very electrically inclined so can someone please assist me in how to set the settings to ohms for my multimeter (attached pic) so I can test my solenoids? I've tried various combinations and could only get a 0 on both of my VANOS solenoids and I highly doubt they're both not working. The multimeter itself does work as I tested it against my battery and I got 12.4V.

My understanding is I should get a reading around 11 ohms if they're good but I don't think I'm setting my multimeter right.

Thank you!

You would use the button that aligns with 200 ohms and the two
connections on the right but I don't see how you select between
volts dc ac volts and ohms unless they are all three position switches.
Don't you have or can you look up a manual.

As a test the two test leads you use should measure close to zero
if you touch them together. This measurement can read .1 to 1 ohm
depending on the meter and leads you would subtract that out
of your measurement to get it more accurate.

200mv 200 ohm switch all the way in.
Test leads in two plugs on right.

Looks like dc/ac switch is just under power switch.

Thanks ctuna. It doesn't show your entire response in the thread btw and I saw the last couple of lines only when responding.

Anyways, out of curiosity, I should still get a very light reading though with the settings on top of 200mv 200ohm, right?

do you understand what a range is .
The lowest range you have on that meter is from 200 to 0 ohms.
That gives you the most resolution in that range.
Each range is 10 times what the previous one is going from
bottom to top. There are only so many digits in the display
so the lowest range you can use for a given measurement
is the most accurate.
I think the next range up s from 0 to 2k =2000 ohms etc.. etc..

I did happen to take the solenoids to an Autozone and try it with one of their testers and I actually did get a reading albeit slightly lower than where it should be which is upwards of 11 ohms.

I suspect there to be something wrong with my existing tester since I couldn't get a reading off of mine.

Go to and electronics store buy a 10ohm 100 ohm resistor
see if they read correctly on the 200 ohm scale.
