E91 Tailgate window opening problem

Proud new owner of 2006 320d M Sport. However, have just discovered that the rear tailgate window won't open.
Any ideas about where to start the diagnosis would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I have recently moved from a Mazda3 to a 2008 E91 318i.

I have a similar issue I believe.

The rear window opens when I unlock the car the first time of the day, or if there
is a long gap between locking and unlocking.

Once it's closed it's not possible to open it manually even if the car is unlocked.

Any ideas why this might be happening ?

Cheers,

If the main tailgate isn't shut properly (or the car thinks its not shut properly) then it blocks the opening of the rear window.

Check if the rear boot courtesy lights are on, this is a giveaway that the main tailgate isn't shut 100%, sticky sensor or something.

Mine does it sometimes, always has, i just open and re-shut the main door and its ok.

Don't slam it as it bounces. As there is no outside 'handle', to keep your hands off the paintwork, just push it closed with your hand on the wiper pivot and firmly push down.

Give it a try.

Guys - just so you know, this turned out to be the little button under the tailgate window lifter.

Cheap to replace, easy to fix and been working fine now ever since.

Here is a nice video on a possible cause of the tailglass not opening:

In brief: If you have deconnected the diversity antenna, u might have forget to connect the switch related with the tailglass opening.

The thread above was useful to me when I had a similar issue.

My issue was:
"e91 boot hatch UN locking issues"

but with clock and trip mileage resets too.

So I link to my thread in case it's useful to anyone else:

I included all threads I read.
