Nope. I use Aqua Shield marine grease on all my poly sway bar bushings and have never had any issues. It's incredibly tacky and resistant to wash out

No, you can use a e-torx wrench (better) or a 11mm closed end wrench (acceptable but use with caution). I used the 11mm wrench but I recently purchased e-torx wrenches.

Well, over the past three days . . . did the 3-stage intake manifold upgrade. I've had the parts since December but was waiting until this week off (teacher - Spring break) to take on the job.

I got started Monday morning - pulled the ECU and shipped it off to Turner for a tune. Spent the rest of the day pulling the old manifold, installing the DISA valves, switching parts over to the 3-stage manifold, and installing.

Day 2 was spent fixing another problem I discovered - a PO had cut a chunk out of the cowling for a valve cover removal (good news is that that gasket has been done) which had resulted in water in the rear two spark plug wells (I had left the engine cover off in anticipation of this intake job). Had to fab up an aluminum sleeve to fit over that section.

Day 3 (today) I got the reflashed ECU back this morning, installed it, buttoned everything else up and fired it up for the first time. Nope, lots of codes and running rough - significant code was CCID 29 - Engine Problem, Reduced Power. Diagnosis with Carly indicated a throttle problem. The Turner guys thought it was the throttle position sensor and, yep, that was it - I had not securely connected it. Pulled the airbox, moved the power steering reservoir, plugged it in properly, put everything back, and . . . it worked!

Went for a joy ride and Wow! my little station wagon has some zip now. Love the idea of a hot rod station wagon. Instead of fake wood paneling maybe I should go for some flames . . .

Looking forward to more power and better MPGs!

Put back together (mostly):

I restored my E90 headlights this past weekend.

If your BMW's headlights need a refresh, I created a step-by-step guide to bring them back to life. I've done this many times with great results and have tried all the kits out there. This is by far the best method that holds up over time. Just thought I'd share!

3M Headlight Restoration Kit: https://amzn.to/2IUptsU

3M Automotive Masking Tape: https://amzn.to/2W3wRWl

Automotive Glass Cleaner: https://amzn.to/2Dy4ZCP

Meguiar's Microfiber Towels: https://amzn.to/2L2GO5m

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax: https://amzn.to/2XGH3EH

Cordless Drill: https://amzn.to/2PtjDQs

If you've done this before, let me know your experience!

Locked myself out of it . . . 'Doh!

I was taking my Old Lady Dog, Bonnie, a 16 years and 11 months old Brittany, to the vet for a checkup. She cannot always control her eliminations and she did a #2 in the back (cargo area) of my E91. She has to be lifted in and out and not wanting her to step in it, I absentmindedly set my keys down in the cargo area right near the latch - shoulda put them in my pocket but I was worrying about my Old Lady Dog. Shut the tailgate and it hit the lock button. 'Doh! Had to call my mother-in-law to go by my house and get my spare keys. Actually, the last time I locked myself out of a car was at the vet's, loading a groggy post-procedure doggie into the back of my old Taurus wagon. Did the same thing then, except that time the dog was in the car. Fortunately, it was not a hot day.

There are several tunes available - Turner, AA (Active Autowerke), BPM (Bimmer Performance Center) for a cost. Bimmerlabs offers the software for a free tune using the 330i parameters. There are probably others but this is what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Yes, combined with the tune, the more efficient air flow should get better MPG. We will see . . .

All put back together - I even put the beauty cover back on:

I've read flashing a car without the manifold will gain a slight amount of power.

Is the flash on the bimmerlabs website? I couldn't find it

Yup, the 3 stage has so many benefits. The huge gain in low end torque (we're talking dyno proven 20-25wtq) as low as 2000 RPM is what makes it such a treat to drive around town. The car just gets going with so much more ease than with the weak normal manifold and tune, probably why OP is seeing improved MPG as it doesn't need as much throttle to make as much if not more torque than before for that level of input

There is NO power or gain to be had using the manifold without the software. The car simply does not know to activate the DISA flaps. This is 100% false.

The "330i flash" is on bimmerlabs. After you have to sign up, enter your VIN and then it will list the available flash files for your car along with an easy to follow DIY to flash it.

Yeah the metal flake is throwing me off a bit, but other than that it looks amazing. Now just time to clean and re-paint those hubs/rotors

Thanks guys, I got it with a glossy clear but it looks different in the shade and sun. I kind of felt weird when I first saw it but I've grown into liking it by staring at it long enough lol
