I bought a 335i convertible a few months ago... currently has 50k miles on it. I have always noticed this very faint noise from the engine but only when it is idling in the garage and I am standing next to the engine. Please let me know if it is normal or not! Thank you!

The 235i in my family has always done it faintly, and got a bit louder around 25k miles. Now has 45k on it and it hasn't gotten any worse, I've always seen it as normal.
My n52 on the other hand does not do this, which really makes me wonder what it is. I assume high pressure fuel system related, even though it kinda sounds like something timing system related. It's very possible we're hearing different things, so I'll be interested to see what others say when they chime in. |

My car makes the same noise. Hasn’t gotten worse. Pretty sure it’s normal.

Glad to see a few others have the same noise! Could this be a loose belt of some sort? Belts seem to sound more like a squeal in my experience, though. Thanks!
