Cup holder Delete Project
Have you ever been driving down a twisty road and thought, golly, I wish my passenger had a big gulp cup filled with soda? No, me neither.
So I hate the cup holder assembly in the E92. I think it looks like shit. I've wanted to delete it since buying the car. But it's not that simple!! This is my first attempt, and I'l be honest right up front I hate it. It's too much fake texture. Never Mind the things I had to do so that I could wrap that piece in leatherette, actually it just involves laminating the plastic strip with something to cover the holes. The point is I made an error in my materiels choosing which will soon be corrected. I have ordered a yard of alcantara and when it arrives I will dis assemble this nonsense and re do it with the black suede. What I have in this picture is insufficient to be so close to stitched carbon leather. By the way, I think it's cute that the cupholder cartridges, when removed, look exactly like MG42 magazines. Thoughts? |

So... do you no longer have a cup holder, or is the driver's cupholder located differently in the e92?

hahaha I see, you don't find it a nuisance driving around with your center console up?

you could always get one of the European dashes without cupholers completely. its just flush all along that panel. Especially since you were talking about getting a navigation dash in your other post.
See? this is a screenshot from the BMW.co.uk website. Im sure you could order this dash.

I really just want to do something special in the place where the cup holders were. Like on the new cayman interior. Speaking of that, a buddy has an engineering shoppe and he offered to lazor cut a piece of aluminium to fit that area for me. If the alcantara doesn't work out that will be the next idea. |

Maybe I should just book a new cayman instead of the 4er? Oh god... somebody stop me! Then I would have the same brand as the retired porn star at the office... noooooo!!!!

No I wanted to do something different with that space, and I'm convinced they were a noise source over bumps which I prefer not to tolerate.

Personally if you worry about a cup holder on a bmw then you bought the wrong car. People who buy bmw could care less about a cup holder. I think a mini van suits you better. Just saying. Nice trim btw

the cup holders on the e90 are plain terrible. they dont even hold a can of redbull. forget putting a tall water bottle in there. first turn, it tips right over. i like the location of them but wish they were deeper cups to hold a real drink. what are these, cup holders for ants?
