N43 Timing Tools
Has anyone timed up there own N43 engine? If so have you any experience of the tools found online approx. £40. I didn't want to go and buy one to find its a knock off version with incorrect tolerance. Prices are around 40 quid or 400 quid haha!

I paid £53 for a kit and its been perfect. 0 degree VANOS adaption values when fitted correctly.
One thing I always do on all bmw's is set the adjustment up with the chain tensioner fully tightened in rather than using the pre-load setting tool that all of the kits seem to include. File a flat on the end of the flywheel locking pin to help scour muck out of the hole in the block. Once spent a full hour getting the pin into an N43 engine. |

Thanks Andy, a friend of mines partners dad is a bmw tech so hopefully I can borrow his. If not I'll order one online which I've seen for 40 quid, should do the trick. One thing I've noticed with mine. Is when the car is cold the chain is pretty slack can lift it up and move it around. When it's warm and I check the chain is rock solid. This normal?

Can only suggest that might be down to oil pressure within the tensioner. Either way you shouldn't be able to move the chain when cold.
In order to do a proper job you'll need the sump off you know? |
