Seems to defeat the whole purpose of having a responsive high performance car. If I don't want to drive, I could take the bus.

I'd like to know exactly how close to the limit will this car get. I mean, you can get into a car, mash the gas throw it into a corner, let the back kick out, and recover.
But how far will this car go? My thinking is that it would probably keep things sane on the track and get things to a point well before the car starts to let the back slip. Don't really know how much fun that would be but still very cool.
With that said, if they have any hopes of getting this on a production car, let's keep it to the "i" sub brand. Since it's already a city/commuter car, it may be ideal for it. May also improve on already impressive gas milage. Just a thought.

Well it's pretty dirty and I would like to clean it up a little now. But I guess I can wait and just do my best with a rag and scrubby or something.

very true.

Anyone have any ideas why they wouldn't use an M3 for this? Just curious.

Because it was done back in late 2005 before the e9x M3 was out, and the 3 series e9x top end model was the 330i.
