Buying BMW from another province

Hi,
My question is can you finance a car from another province and have it shipped to you without having to go all the way their to sign documents.

Ex. Let's say I want to buy a car in BC and send the signed documents by email and have em ship it by CN rail.

The BC Sales advisor said yes but the Quebec guy said you have to see the car before you sign it as per Canadian law.

Any help will be appreciated.

If BMW Canada says it's fine. I don't see any issues at all. You will just need the selling dealer to prep all the paper works and once they are signed and arrange for transport to your home province, then you can pick it up at your local bmw dealer.

I knew someone who had done this but it's a cash deal, therefore, BMW Canada was not needed to approve such arrangement. That person lived in Alberta and bought in BC and signed the purchase & sale agreement by email. However, the person still traveled to BC to verify the car and condition before transport and signed off on it in person before flying back to Alberta and waited about 1 week for delivery and picked up the car at the local bmw dealership, without any issues at all.

On another example I came across last year was at a Porsche dealership, I was chatting with a sales guy about a beautiful 911 GT3 RS 4.0 sitting on the showroom floor and he said it was just sold and the sales guy disclosed the buyer was from Vancouver BC and he just called in to buy without ever seeing it at all in person and they did the paper work by email, the dealer will prep all the necessary documents for the new owner and ship it to BC Porsche dealer there so the owner can pick it up.

I'm in Calgary and I bought my 335xi from Vancouver, without seeing it in person. And part of the negotiated deal was for the dealer to ship it to me. It was the longest week of my life!

The dealer and I scanned and emailed all the documentation that required signatures.

The car was registered and inspected in BC only a month before I bought it, and Alberta usually honors other provincial inspections done within 90 days. It added a couple of days wait to getting my registration, but it was worth not having to get an Alberta inspection.

Ok thanks. So even if the car is a CPO some provinces require it to be inspected again when it reaches here? I'm in Ontario. Where do I look into this?

you can take it to your local bmw dealer or any indep garage that does inspection, such as CAA (if you want a trust worthy entity)

in order to register in your province, car needs to be inspected by law, not because it is CPO
it has nothing to do with CPO.

If that's the case, how much does a local BMW dealer charge on avg for inspection?

Does anyone know if Ontario honors other provinces inspection like Alberta?

just go to local shop for inspection. they check on your tires/error lights on dash/brake lights/windshield/ etc...no need to go to BMW for that. Probably around $80-100 if there is nothing to be repaired. If you pass the inspection, you can finally register the car

I've always wondered about this, it seems that AB is one of the best provinces (cheaper) to buy a car.

When I get my next BMW I will have to triple check this, crunching all the numbers. Checking how far my dealer would go to give me a good price.

Actually, AB is NOT the best place to buy as there are not enough competition out there. A few people I know lived in AB but ended up buying in BC, after factoring in the added expenses in getting one.

I figure I saved quite a few thousand $$ buying a car from Vancouver, and not Calgary (where I live). Even with getting it shipped.

You'll have to check Ontario's out-of-province inspection criteria. I'm sure they have a website...alberta does. Like I said, AB usually honors other OOP inspections, if they were done within 90 days. Doesn't matter if the car is CPO, or anything. Outside of 90 days, and I would've needed AB inspection. I heard they were $150-$200, depending on the shop. Again, those would've been Calgary prices.

Ok i'm getting a great deal on the car from Vancouver cuz they don't have anything in stock here in GTA. They confirmed if it's new you don't need to get it inspected but if used you do.

Does the shipping company ever drive the car at any point. The dealership in Vancouver is using a a logistics company called Hansen's to ship it to Gta.

Worried they will rev it too much.
