Talking Bedford Aerodrome Trackday Pictures 18 April 2009

Fresh from the weekend's action @ Bedford Aerodrome, which our E90post member Spin kindly arranged a discount to

Lots of lovely cars, some good driving, some atrocious driving. I took the opportunity to shake down a couple of new 'extras' on my car this being the first time my car has been on a track in the last two months. Was good fun, albeit with some idiots doing their best to make it dangerous for others A guy in an Aston DB9 was a case in point - details below...!

Spin's remapped 335d looked great, with the BMW Performance brakes front & rear shining through the MSport wheels. His second car, the white Audi S3, looked mean as hell, and surprised a bucket load of people out on track

Met a couple of BMW owners, one in an E92 M3 - hopefully they'll be joining the forum in the next couple of days. Spin and I did well introducing the power of the 335, both diesel and petrol, to non-believers... actually, he and I both pissed off a lot of people as we were so quick I distinctly remember the obnoxious R8 driver who on the long straight kept looking between the steering wheel and rearview mirror in amazement as I tailgated him most of the way down before I pulled out and accelerated past him I hit 145mph at the end of the straight before hauling on the brakes as time and time again I forgot the left hander at the end was a lot sharper than I expected

I took my detailer Paul, from ShineOn, along for the day - his DMSd E46 320d held up well amongst the more powerful cars and looked great on its freshly reworked anthracite coloured wheels

And I was so pleased to see an absolutely beautiful Porsche Carrera RS doing the rounds - nice to see cars like that are used and not just looked at!

All pics taken by me using a Nikon D300, 80-200mm f/2.8

Right, well you remember I mentioned that Aston DB9 driver ??

Well, he was a TWAT... big big TWAT ... got spoken to TWICE by the marshals for far too aggressive driving and complete lack of car control and his utter disregard for other people

Size: 184.0 KB

Name: _DSC3676.jpg

Unfortunately, he didn't listen to the marshals, with disastrous consequences He went far too hot into a left-hand hairpin, ran out of brakes, never had any talent, tried to cut through the inside of the hairpin, and went straight into the side of a beautiful 08-plate 911 GT3 Porsche came out better, thankully, but the DB9 was ruined.

I don't care about the Aston driver - but I feel so bad for the Porsche owner... he did nothing wrong, just was in the wrong place at the wrong time... I saw the Aston driver shortly afterwards, with his head in his hands and all the indemnity paperwork around him. He had no insurance whatsoever. And he's got both the Aston and the Porsche to pay for...

Marshal said over the radio to keep the two drivers apart .... "the Porsche driver seems a bit furious at the moment, so keep eyeballs on both of them....."

i wonder if the aston owner has enough wedge to pay for the repairs on the porsche.....and i wonder if any of the 2 involved have insurance covering the accident or are they going to tow both cars to the side of the road somewhere and THEN call the insurance????

dont look at me.....its not the first time someone would have done that

Some fantastic pics and looks like you had a great day.

Ref the Aston driver, well you always get at least one t*at on these types of days, he probably thought he had something to prove and not surprisingly paid the price.

How did the RS6 get on?

Jules.

RS6 as surprisingly relatively slow down the straights - probably weighs over 2 tonnes so maybe not so surprising after all...!! Massive roll through the corners too. His brakes held up a lot better than I expected them to however!! It did look lovely - had been detailed the week before by Paul from ShineOn

Its a great track up there - the theory is that there is very little to hit! Bit of a shame when there is a comming together because someone has a ego larger than their ability.

Great write up and pics

This DB9 idiot - obviously he should of had track day insurance, how much does that usually cost and where is the best place to get it?

After the 330d is mapped I would like to go to the next Bedford day

You still owe me a ride in the E92FAN btw (yeh that's what I'm calling you car now lol, unless you have another name for it). Very jealous that BiK got a ride in it. He said he was "thrilled" but knew you had pure and absolute control over your automobile
