WA (Seattle) / BC (Vancouver) Meetup anyone?

Hey would guys in the Seattle area be interested in meeting up with some Canucks from Vancouver, BC? Might be nice to organize a joint-meetup somewhere in the middle between the two points? Perhaps Bellingham or Mount Vernon? On a weekend in October or so?

What do you guys think? Anybody up for this?

Post your thoughts below...in particular we need some location scouts...anywhere familiar with the Bellingham or Mount Vernon area that has lots of free parking on a Saturday where we can meetup? Preferrably a large empty parking lot?

Stuck...going down to the US? Or coming back to Canada?

And exactly what kind of "problem" are we talking about? Is it the rubber glove test kind of problem?

Ya know I think a meet up would be cool... But I'd kinda like it to be in Canada, I freaking love it up there. So few assholes and rude people...

But Bellingham would be just dandy though I do not know anything about it.

I am willing to bet that we could head over Deception Pass and find some place to hang out and meet on Whidbey Island. Get the hell outta the city. It's an amazing drive out there and the pass is pretty dramatic.

I dunno anything else about it accept it's supposed to be really pretty.

Deception Pass sounds good...I went there long time ago...it was a good drive from what I remember. I recall seaside vendors selling crab and oysters too...

It may make sense to meetup somewhere along I-5 near Burlington or in Mount Vernon. Have a staging area at a parking lot...at a Home Depot or Lowe's or something. Any suggestions?

Revlis...yup would love to host a joint meetup in Canada too. There are several country roads we can show off up here...although let's see if we can generate enough interest for something closer to you boys in Seattle first...

I would be interested in joining in on this meet. Do you guys accept E46 people in your group? To be honest the fanatics regional thread is lacking in terms of participating members.

More the merrier!

Yah I'm surprised the Northwest regional forum is so quiet. Seems like only the SoCal and NorCal guys are the loud ones around here...

I think a meet up in mid-Late-Sept would be ideal, someplace right along I-5, dead simple to find, then we head out to lunch maybe somewhere on Whidby Isl. This late in the season might thin out some of the touristas.

I see no reason to Exclude ANYONE in a BMW...

Hmmm...good point. Actually timing wise...I was thinking of some time early October or mid October.

What works for everyone? I assume Saturday will work better than a Sunday?

Tell me about. I totally agree. I was trying to keep miles off for awhile so I could keep my wheels and tires pretty new for resale....but I kind of over did it.

I've got an e46 330i with 57k on it. That's pretty good. 90% of the time I drive my Sabb 9-3, which is my company car. I flip that once/year.

But you're right, I need to drive that bitch!

Lemme guess the your E46 is a 2001 too.

I quite liked the look of Saab's...before they started putting too much chrome on the front grille area. How do you like it? Do you get to pick which car your company gives you? Seems rather unconvential for a company car...usually I would expect a Ford Taurus or something.

Can you not get a car allowance through work? That would be better, no? Then you can enjoy you own car...and use the allowance for more mods.

I've never seen a car allowance that came anywhere near close to providing the same "benefit" as having the car.

One job I had I was given $625/month pre-tax as a car allowance. After taxes, that dropped down to $450. They also paid 80% of all my gas (figuring 20% of the time would be personal driving.) Not a bad deal, but when insurance eats up $70 to $100 per month, and factor in $50/month for maintanence/misc/etc., that leaves $300 a month for a car payment.

A second job paid only $600 a month, but allowed you to submit a mileage log to prevent taxes from being taken out. In the first job, you had to offset the income with a detailed mileage calculation. It wasn't worth the hassle, so I never did. But in this second job, they made it easier. However, that $600 was to cover everything, including gas. Back then, it was $1.50+ a gallon, so it still left approximately $300/month for a car payment.

A third job I had supplied a company car. They paid for everything; gas, tires, maintanence, lease payment, etc. I figure it was worth about $1,000/month in pre-tax dollars. This was recent, and I was spending $300 a month just on fuel. The drawback was the company car was a strippy Dodge mini-van. But it was replaced after 2 years with a Chevy Trailblazer 4x4.

My current job doesn't have a company car, but they pay me mileage. I don't drive a lot anymore for work, so I'm lucky to collect $150 to $200 a month in mileage payments. I didn't really drive a whole lot for work previously, but we still racked up 22,000 miles a year.

Given the choice, I'd rather have a company car, even a crappy one. Then I could have the fun car for weekends. I still need two cars, but with a company car, I'm not on the hook for both.
