It looks like the cable to the lens can be extended even longer than the cable that is supplied with the camera. I'd like to mount the recorder in a readily accessible location, perhaps inside the console armrest storage compartment.

It looks like INNOVV cameras are using similar board as Mobius. It appears more advanced than the Mobius with G-sensor embedded. The C3 version with mini HDMI extension for the lenses is really neat. The 4m dashcam cable is the exact length to route it to the glove box. If you want it in the armrest compartment 2m hdmi extension cable would probably be sufficient.

Weird. I had to glue ledges on both sides to hold the housing. They snug between the windshield and the rain sensor. Without those it was loose and impossible to stay in place.

Now I'm looking for a way to have the buttons accessible through the housing. The problem I'm seeing is that the buttons are on the same side as the chip which will become hot and would melt the housing. I am thinking with longer buttons from an old TV remote or something like that.

Not sure, I've only tried with my camera.

Yes, that would work pretty well. One thing to note is that with my camera (which seems to be based on the same design as this one) have user reports on poor signal quality with lens extension. I'm not sure about this one just heads up!

You could use the original buttons which pop right out of the camera casing and simply extend the buttons. I was thinking of drilling holes and doing the same but haven't gotten to it. So far, I haven't had the need to even access the camera. Simply reading from the glovebox using an ipad has been suffice since I've coded the camera to record with motion detection if power is supplied.

This was a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing it here.

I'm also thinking of the Mobius, but I'd like to have access to the recorder, memory card and controls, and the Mobius lens extension cable looks a little too short for what I have in mind.

IIR the silver features that look like buttons on the Mobius are actually heat sinks. The other thing that I learned from reading so far is that no matter which camera is used, one needs to be sure to get the capacitor version! The batteries won't last in the heat of a car interior.

I'm backed up a couple of car projects so I'm mostly in the planning phase plus its too cold to do anything right now! At the speed that these products are developing and the amazingly short lead time, there will probably be a vastly improved camera available before I begin to gather up the components.

Update

Added an LED indicator on the housing to blink when the camera is recording! Since the camera is enclosed, I had no idea if it was still running or if something happened. With this blinking indicator, I can easily see from inside and outside the car when my dashcam is recording! The indicator looks very much like the blinking led from an alarm system.

This was prompted when I checked up on the camera and realized it wasn't recording due to the battery overheating. I also connected the circuit board differently so that it makes contact with the metal rear view mirror arm and uses it as a heat sink.

How do you have it mounted? It doesn't rattle around in there?

Yup, thought I'd leave the battery in to test my luck - didn't stand a chance in California springtime.

I have the miniusb head ziptied to the arm of the mirror so it doesn't move. The circuit board simply plugs in with a bit of pressure to the arm which dubs as a heat sink. See the picture in my update post.

If you do end up doing this, please post about how it works out because I wanted to do the same thing but didnt wanna buy the camera if it was not going to work in the car like the mobius. It has far better recording capabilities than the mobius and had wifi so it does not need to be removed to access the footage. Thanks and good luck.

Wow, i would like a DIY too!

I've been researching dash cams lately as well and they are all very non-discreet. I want something stealthy like this!

Mainly for use when my car is parked in the garage. How is the motion sensor and usability for parking mode?

Please put together a DIY!

Also, do you have a part number for the housing?

I'm questioning this because I was under the impression that the battery protection circuit monitors (after 30 minutes / doors locked) mA and anything over 80mA will trigger the warning (battery dead or not). I struggled with this for a while connecting my AndroidPC.

Can you show me where you tapped into the Fuse panel? I appreciate the help!
..check this. You'll need The "Power Magic Pro" plus an AGM battery. I have a Blackvue DR650gw-2ch...that works great in this set-up, no battery "increase discharge" warning, not even in winter with camera in parking mode. Power Magic Pro cut-off happens after more than a week of inactivity...
