Dinan install -anyone else know any details?

Today I got a call from Eric at Dinan and he told me that you dont have to ship out the ECU anymore and that i could go straight to Motor Works West in Wycoff to get my car supped up. The Dinan is $1900 plus that hour of labor like $200. So basically $2100 for like 80 HP. Anyone with a 335 should consider it. Plus it doesnt void your warantee or lease.

Honestly, if you remove your tune before you take your car in for any problems, they will never noticed that it was ever in there. I highly doubt that any of the tunes out there right now, if used properly will do any major damage to the engine.

Plus, with the Dinan tune, it's not transferable. So, let's say you decide to sell your car, that's it for that tune.

But with a piggyback, you can un-install it and sell it for at least 60% of what you paid for it. For $2,100+ , I would just get other mods. But that's my $.02.

Good luck with your Dinan if you decide to go for it.

Dinan are top notch

Very professional, they stand behind their product.

I just had upgraded Dinan software put in my car this week.

They are fine tuning it, to make sure everything is running smoothly.

I should have the car back by the end of the week.

While we are on the Subject, in addition to Motor works,

The guys at Flemington BMW are Fantastic.

They have attended to all my Dinan needs from the beginning.

I highly recommend them

Steve

Dinan got off their butts and created a PT-CAN connector for the MIPP programmer. The older MIPP programmers used the D-CAN.

I just spoke with this guy Al from Bay Diagnostic in Brooklyn and told him what I read on this thread. He called up Eric from Dinan to ask him whether they are sending out the software upgrade for 08 335 models. Eric told him they are only 2-3 months away from sending it out. Its not ready yet. Spanishflie didnt elaborate whether he was talking about 07 or 08 models. You never had to send out your ECU for 07 models.

Get him to explain the difference between D-CAN and PT-CAN

Just some info I googled...

PT-CAN (Power Train Control Area Network)
Maximum Data Rate: 500Kbps
Network Topology: Linear

"Every control unit and other module that has anything
to do with the car’s power train are connected linearly
to the PT-CAN bus. This includes the antiroll and other
automatic suspension stabilization units and the digital
motor electronics. Because these sensors and systems
constantly generate so much traffic when the car is in
motion, the PT-CAN has five times the bandwidth of
the car’s other CANs to handle all the data.
Two sub-bus systems are also connected to the
PT-CAN. The LoCAN (Engine Low CAN bus) lets the
Valvetronic variable valve-timing module communicate
with the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) module,
while the BSD (bit-serial interface bus) lets the
battery control module and oil quality sensor talk
to the DME."

I was hoping to get a detailed explanation..... 07's are programmed using the D-CAN protocol and the 08+ use PT-CAN.

Dinan's MIPP uses D-CANs.

Well actually Eric did specify where i did not. he did tell me that for the 07 you did not have to send out the ECU. I noted that but forgot to mention it. All that other technical stuff i leave to you guys to discuss. All i have to do is get my $2100 together. lqtm
