Water Pump Question..

Hi All - Just curious; i'm at about 71k miles, which I know is pretty much the sweet spot for water pump failures. I've got the BMW warranty to 100k, so I'm not really worried about that part of it, but I am freaking myself out with my upcoming road trip of about 1200 miles to the desert.

I called BMW to see if there was any sort of pre-emptive check they can do, but naturally the guy said "well I haven't heard of any BMWs having water pump issues" (rly?......). Is there anything to check, any sounds etc. that would provide some insight to impending doom? FWIW, when I had a my little mishap last year at around 48k, they replaced the radiator (the cooling loop was not damaged at all but they said it was bent), and as a result have a new radiator & had the fluid changed at that time. Would that prolong the life of the pump/t-stat at all?

Thanks

Here is my suggestion;

If it is a 2006 325/330i, change it.

If it is a 2007+, get the codes through a cable and very-very-affordable software

If I understand correctly what has been discussed a few months ago, there is an high probability that a soon-to-be failed pump will issue a few low-speed codes, months in advance.

Worth to check but won't always be the case. I had all codes come on when the pump actually failed - there was a loud whirling sound and the kaput.

My suggestion is to have the car scanned with a BMW scan tool and look for code 2E81 or 2E82.

It's an 08. I ordered the cable (needed a reason to get one anyways), so will check and see if there are any codes present. Will also be curious if I have any misfires because everynow and then she feels like she might stall and it stutters a bit.

Cable came in; here are the codes pulled:

2EF7 Unknown
2A17 DMTL, system fault

Can any exp. code readers chime in?
