I'm going insane. I live in PA .. i have a RWD 335i that I daily ... i love the car more everyday. It has 120k on it .... i want AWD for winter. Been searching up and down for vehicles to get ... at the end of the day i am strongly leaning towards just buying another 335!
I'd love to hear other's opinions on a fun vehicle. I am thinking 335xi sedan with 6MT |

Gotta give us a price range here...
I have a '14 Grand Cherokee that I've driven for the last 3 years before I picked up my 335i. I would think an AWD SUV or truck would be the best option for some usable cargo space. I can fit a TON of stuff in the back of the Jeep, tow with it, take it places where there is no chance an AWD 3 series would get through, including deep snow (which I hear they get in PA every so often). Why get another car, especially another manual? What will you drive when you hurt an arm or something? I separated my shoulder a few years ago and couldn't drive my WRX, had to borrow my parent's car to get by until it healed. And no, driving it with one hand would not work. I hurt my left arm and there was still no way I was driving manual with just my right arm. |

+1 on an SUV.
It's the reason I'm still hanging onto my 18 year old Jeep. It can go places the 3 series can't, can tow, haul stuff, etc.

stuff that's cheap can't tow ... that's the problem i'm running into. i was considering a x3 35i .... decent all around package but then the auto throws me off. as of last night i was toying with maybe just buying a super cheap e83 x3. And if it's going to be another daily ... it's gotta be fun to drive. |

Second car? You don’t live in the Rocky Mountains.
Snow tires. Cheapest best way. There’s not much value in a 335i at this point. Just drive year round till it Rust’s apart. |

Yeah I know nothing about them also, but was looking at them. Probably more reliable than the 335i and nicer seats but like you said you know the 335i. Just so you know the xi has a fucked up situation with the oil pan.

Gen 3 4wd toyota 4runner or a subaru. Super practical and reliable. I picked my 4runner with 220K on the odo and its been solid since.
No need to have a 2nd nice car and have your investment $ split in half.

Where in PA? Crazy rural PA or near a decently populated area? The only reason I ask is because unless you live in some very rural place, then you really don't need AWD (and in that case you might as well have a 4WD truck).
I have a lot of family in PA and those who don't have pickup trucks get by just fine with a front wheel drive car and a set of snow tires. |

For winter I have a Tacoma.
And a Lexus GS350 AWD. If you want to keep costs down I recommend finding a used AWD sedan. The market loves SUVs these days and hates sedans. I got a stunning deal on the Lexus and it was even CPO. |

The problem is the cars you mention are all like the same price i could get one of these for ... so when i look at most bang for my buck - while still enjoying the vehicle all roads seem to point this way. |

Yeah but it's pointless to get two 335i's. Might as well use the opportunity to get something at least a bit different.
If you're dead-set on another 3-series, I would recommend an E91 328xi. If it was my choice I would get a X5 35d. Great AWD beamer for daily use! Also useful if you ever have to tow your 335i.

Well, I'm not sure how much fun SUVs can be. While some modern wizardry may provide some of that satisfaction, the physics just works against you unless you buy something like a Macan S.
Then again if you want to tow, you don't have much choice unless it's something light that a normal sedan/touring and its transmission can handle. I am heavily biased towards wagons though as they offer all the practicality in a package that's fun to drive while requiring less "stuff" to suppport their utility. If all you desire is AWD in your car, find that 335xi, 6MT and sell yours and be done. |
