Bimmer Performance Center revisits an old friend
This a teaser but we will be revisiting an old friend that everyone has been asking us about on our Youtube channel, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and PM's. The E90 N52 Turbo will be receiving some updates.
I will be updating this thread with more photos as we continue revisiting project. For now here are some photos of some of the updates |

Forged pistons and connecting rods?!?! Would this be an upgrade available to us non-turbo dudes to be able to run more compression on revised tunes?!?!

I could easily be wrong, but I remember that people usually talked about going to a LOWER compression when building for turbo setups, but I honestly couldn't tell you why as I never cared to look into it. I'm guessing that's what BPC is doing with theirs. Hmm, maybe the N51 in stock form is actually a better platform to turbo than the N52? |

No, my mindset is opening up the engine to replace the pistons and gaining zero horsepower wouldn't be worth it.

Good stuff! I'm more curious about that crazy 8000+ RPM N52 you guys had... no info at all on that setup though, not on the youtube video either.

I'm kind of interested in the pistons - they look like they are probably a longer skirt that stock? And looks like thicker ring lands to deal with the boost. They are probably heavier than stock though (same with the rods). What are your thoughts on machined caps vs cracked caps? I guess you just deal with it with bigger bolts?
Can you post a comparison of weights, and maybe something about how you're honing (or machining) the bores of the N52 block? Quote:
That was the same engine they boosted - it was all stock internally. |

On the 8000 rpm, I always thought it was the oil in the lifter foaming up, and the lifter collapsing that kept anything over 7400rpm a problem. Wonder what their solution was.
