I installed the Msport wheel amd airbag, as well as the aluminum trim. I mentioned that in my ad.

I’ve been trying to source euro Alcantara manual sport seats from Europe. There are several sets on eBay but no one willing to ship to the US yet...

If I got those I’d probably buy the new Oem m sport bumpers, install the minty 19 inch BBS CH in my garage and keep her.

Having a hard time finding the Oem parts I want without spending a fortune is the reason for the sale. I don’t want to have $30k into this one, and I’ve been known to do stupid things with car builds!!

Schmiedmann has tons of E9x, E91 Euro parts/interiors/etc, (link is LCI E91) on an on-going basis being parted, and they ship worldwide. Redshift has recently bought a ton of stuff from them for his N57 6MT E91 build (see build thread in N57 section). Here is the link to pre-LCI E91s.

Thanks. I’ve been to their site numerous times and emailed them a few times. I had just missed a set by a few weeks when I started looking. He said the Alcantara set don’t come in too often.

These are all over Autotrader. Why do people pay the BAT premium and fee to buy something that is easily had elsewhere?

Should I stop posting F31's here? Genuine question. Or only post an F31 when it has a cool spec?

Nevermind, stupid question. This is the e90 site. I wasn't paying close enough attention.

No I think it is cool to post neat wagons. I was more asking why buyers pay $10k more than they have to for otherwise obtainable wagons. Good e91’s are hard to come by, so I understand why people pay the BAT tax for those!!

This popped up in my Craigslist searches: 152k-mile 2010 328i (RWD, I think?) wagon 6MT for $12.5k. Non-sport package, silver over beige interior. Rear bumper definitely needs to be repainted (or swapped for an M Sport bumper). Seems like a steep asking price.

Overpriced for 152k. Especially for non-sport/non-msport/beige.
Also, dude doesn't know what he's talking about "2010 was the FINAL year that BMW produced manual station-wagons"
Nice that it isn't just getting scrapped though. Could go another 100k easy, the number of 6MT RWDs is only going down.

With that option spec and location? Probably sub 10k, maybe as low as 8k. Its also hard to tell condition with those crap pictures and dirty car. I have a feeling that if I were to roll up there, it would have a leaking OFHG and a rusty rear subframe.

Also, maybe I'm fucked in the head, but I really like those OEM wheels. Does anyone know what style # they are?

http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/185

Looks like they're Style 185s. Thought they were 162s (pre-facelift 335i sport package wheels) at first, but apparently not. 162s look more interesting and have some concavity to them.

Yea, I figured 10k is tops for an LCI 6MT with 150k.

Was trying to price the market for a pre-LCI car with 175k. There's one I'm aware of for sale that's pre-LCI for $7,500. I messaged a member here with a similar car he's potentially looking to move and he was so offended by that ballpark that he didn't reply to my PM.

Probably a stupid idea to spend near $10k on a BMW that isn't an E30 or 2002 with over 150k on it anyways. I'll find another way to waste my money. I have 2 E91s as-is.

The platform certainly has the potential to go to 250K+ on the right, maintained example. Certainly sinking as much money if not more into an E30 or E21 at that starting price point.

That silver car is rough cosmetically. Given the ownership attitude and east coast location I suspect the underside is not in pristine shape either. Price is very optimistic

They certainly can go well into the 200k range, several E90s are documented at that mileage now. The difference here is that an E9X with 150k+ on it right now has likely had a hard life, that sliver car is no exception. Usually cars that look neglected from a visual standpoint are even more neglected mechanically.

I'm on the hunt for the next project as my E36 was too rusty and I had it scrapped about 6 months ago.

I'm considering...
  • E46 touring - must be 5MT, would do a ZHP build, likely leave the motor alone
  • E39 touring - same as above, M Techinc bumpers, etc.
  • E91 - must be 6MT and red, would do an M3 front clip, full bolt on N52 (just have 3IM, software and exhaust on my current car)
  • E61 - N54 with automatic is preferred, would do an M5 front clip

I currently have a 6MT LCI that's around 67k and my slushbox pre-LCI is at 125k.

I want something to build and enjoy, take on a few road trips then sell after a year or two of "completing" the build. I worked at a BMW dealership when E46 and E9X / E39 and E60 were in production but have only owned E36s and E9X cars (with an E82 which is just a stubby E92).

My unicorn E91 I really like and want to keep basically as it sits, just needs wheels and M3 mirrors to be complete in my eyes. My slushbox E91 is in more of a solid driver category and I don't see much point in modding too much due to the transmission. I think the E61 and E46 both intrigue me the most, since I spent so much time driving them but never owned either.

I love projects but am stuck with 2 cars that aren't really optimal for that mindset. What would you all do in my shoes??

I like all of the cars you listed, but the problem with having a minty wagon is that wagons are made to be used, they're literally a car made (very slightly) less fun to accommodate practicality. I don't think you'll get your money back on fixing up any of the cars you've listed above.

With that said, if you're just in it for the love of the game and are okay with losing some money, I'd probably do some sort of oddball swap, maybe a RWD 535d E61? Might be fun. I've never driven an E61, but they're surprisingly light for their size and have some really impressive forged aluminum chassis bits even on the non-M5 cars.

Find the needle in the haystack before you part with one of the current rides. I find the E46/E39 to be a very enticing project but those platforms are certainly not getting any younger. If you enjoy the build process and are destine to sell all seem like a solid choice, however if you are looking to drive it regularly then you are looking for a mechanically robust and engaging drive. The 5-series feel a bit too big and slow.

I often debate keeping my E91 stock as a long term workhorse or doing the full 3 stage manifold conversion, tune and suspension tweak to spice things up a bit. At 115K miles I wager its only halfway through its life...

Agreed, wagons are definitely made to be used and enjoyed. My 07 is absolutely used like a wagon should be. We've taken it on dirt paths, snow, to hiking trails, etc... The PO used it as a bicycle hauler on the weekends. It still looks great from 10 feet but has a few love marks here and there!

E61 is probably the most intriguing. I've never had a 5 and they were revolutionary when they came out. I remember reading the training materials as they started showing up at our dealership and I was blown away by how advanced the car was, no offense to the E39.

I wouldn't part with either of my current cars. I have space for 4 and my wife has a very accepting tolerance for 3 at a time. Haven't pushed the envelope to 4, yet!

I really agree with finding the needle first, that's what I did with my E91. I bought it then sold my E82 which was a slicktop 6MT M Sport.

You'll love your E91 if you mod it. My LCI has coilovers, camber plates, 3IM, Performance Exhaust, software, clutch delay valve delete, and more. The difference between both of my cars is quite noticeable.

I think I've narrowed the hunt down to an E46 or E61. E46s are at the bottom of their depreciation curve (unless we see a dip across the board due to COVID19). A few grand in suspension, bumpers, and maintenance won't wreck my wallet. I can be all in for under $10k on an E46 and get most of my money back when I'm ready for the next project. Deals can definitely be had on E61s, especially since I actually want an automatic. Time will tell, but one thing is for sure - I don't belong in this thread anymore
