get at it from up top and i used a small needle nose pliers to hold the clamp, once it was positioned on the the pin. I got a screw driver and pushed it on. This was done all from inside of the car. Now I pushed the pin through the DSSR while I was underneath the car. It's a bit of a feeling game to like the DSSR up properly. It's not that bad.

Ok, not that sounds more like it...

I've had my EVO3 for over a year now and I definitely can't imagine driving the car without it. Huge difference in drivability especially when tossing the car around corners Downshifting is a dream with this setup...

Didn't get mine yet... hopefully it's waiting on my doorstep right now.

I'm not sure how much improvement there will be going from just the EVO3 to EVO3 + DSSR... I'll report my experience after I get it and install it.. Just the EVO3 is already a great improvement IMO.

Hey jreich, is there a front/back, top/bottom to the DSSR? The install instructions say to orient it a certain way for clearance as in one end attaches to the shift lever specifically but looking at the DSSR it looks almost perfectly symmetrical.

One side (top/bottom) looks shaved a bit flatter though. Any thoughts?

I couldnt find my dial caliper gauge to measure it, but it looked symmetrical when I looked at it. there was a number on mine so i think i installed the end with the number towards the front of the car.

Thanks for the tip man... I noticed a number stamped on one end of mine as well.

I'm still a little concerned though because it looks like they machined one surface flatter than the other and I'm not sure if it will make a difference in the install.

Shit, maybe I'm over-thinking this???

I just found this thread. I wanted to get on the group buy, but found out too late and ordered the SSK+DSSR anyway; I even got a 50% rebate on the DSSR (thanks to UUC for this).

Mine is in transit now and it will take some time until I receive it as I'm located in Europe. Looking forward to more reviews!

Had mine installed yesterday and tried out the ssk driving home. So far I think its been a pretty big improvement over stock. It definitely feels a lot less rubbery and shifting from 1st to 2nd is a lot better now. I like that solid thud I get when I shift gears now. I'd just like to thank Todd again for all his hard work. Todd if you're in socal let me know, I'll take you out for a beer!

The lowest quote I got was for $135 and highest was $300. I would say $150 to $200 is the average in southern California. Labor required for the install is one and a half to two hours.

I am personally paying $175 just for the SSK + dssr install. I am getting other mods done at the same time so I have other costs involved. The rate on the other mods are less then average asking price so in the end I net out better.

XPO186 -

The ends are not symmetrical. One side should be slightly flatter than the other. The side that is flatter goes on the bottom towards the front. Some other models e46, etc. have a larger slice cutout from the DSSR. Take a look at the UUC installation guide here. This is not the one for our cars but the exageration should help in your orientation.

Have you gotten yours and installed it yet?

UUC sent a copy of those same instructions with my DSSR and the orientation for installation of the piece is very obvious in those pictures. However, the one I got does not look like that at all... one end is not notched for clearance of the flex disc.. Both ends look identical (to me at least) and that is why I posted my question here.

Maybe you can post pictures of yours?

I couldn't tell the difference on mine as well. When I installed the DSSR, I noticed the flex disc had plenty of clearance, so thats probably why they didnt need to shave off much (if any) of the DSSR to make it fit. I've had no binding since I installed mine. I'm still not thrilled with this product.....it makes a difference, but IMO not worth the 4 bones for this. Maybe I need to perform the Clutch Value mod as well...

So I had it installed the other day and there is definitely a significant difference from stock. I love every shift and I have no regrets at all thus far. Everything is more crisp, stiff, and shorter. Great job UUC!

i got mine last week. I had to call UUC as i didnt get it. I talked to the shipping dept and told me that since we ordered it before it had a SKU they put it into their notes and as a result some ppl might have not gotten theirs. call in, they will get it to you.

Finally installed it and here is where I am:

1) Install - The install is a horrible, pain the ass, horrific, wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy instal. As a comparison, it took us about 2 hours to install our AR DP's but over 3 hours to install the SSK. Whatever you do dont try to remove the aluminum carrier. Just loosen it and install the cup from up above. We tried to remove the carrier and ended up just installing everything in place. Spaces are tight to work. Cut some tools down to size and if you can magnetize them, even better. Try to document how the rubber boot is oriented and roll it on/off like a condom.

2) Shifter - Materials and quality are very impressive. After install I was running through the gears to make sure it was all ok and It felt like the ssk was binding cause it wasnt getting into gear all the way. So i started the car and put it in reverse and lo and behold the reverse light turned on! Holy snap, super short shifts, really clean and really crisp. I love the shifter. I put on a new shifter knob as wel as the CDV. I feel like i have a new car.

So in short, amazing shifts, amazing quality. Was the crazy wait and the horrible install worth it? YES!

Ill try to take some pics. I didnt do any before pics...damn.
