Wrong Prop and differential

Hi there guys new here but unfortunately in a pickle BMW have just found out when going to change a seal on the prop, the differential and prop shaft have been fitted to my 318i msport is actually from a 320d. Im trying to find out would this be fine to run as Its completely different ratios. The car in question is actually not been in a good state as have had to have new clutch new ball joints new shockers on front new nox sensor flexi plus welding and other things i cant remember we are currently taking the garage we bought it from to court as he wont pay for any parts even though we only bought a month ago. Thanks for any help.

How was the car on test drive? What seal was leaking on the prop?

As far as I know they'll fit/work totally fine, except the ratios. Clearly that's far from ideal though, so I think you should return the car. But then, you've already put a load of money into the car, which the garage doesn't deserve to receive back. Good luck with it

Usually the diesel diffs have a different pinion flange (3 bolt with guibo) vs an aspirated petrol diff which is almost always a 4 bolt pinion with universal joint. It would've taken some effort to get the diesel diff to work in a 318i. Surely finding a 318i/320i diff is easier
