iphone 3gs not charging

can someone point me in the right direction please...I tried to search the forum and could not find the answer I am looking for.

My iphone 3gs will not charge with the y cable connector in an '08 335i e92. The music still plays through the auxiliary port, but a message pops up on my phone that the phone can't be charged. Is there an updated cable for this, a software fix or am I out of luck? BTW...my iphone is jailbroken, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Please help me out!

Thanks

After much searching and confusion on the subject it turns out to be a very simple fix after all.

All it takes to fix the charging issue is a $20 charging adapter available at any apple store or online. Heres a link to the product, I bought mine from the apple store yesterday, works like a charm with the 'old' Y-cable, although a bit slow on actually 'charging' the phone. Hope this helps anyone who is having issue with this same problem.

That Scosche thing is built to adapt 12v chargers to the 5v that iPhones require...but BMW's USB interface was always 5v...? For me, the interface has been unreliable ever since I updated to iOS 4.0. Has this been a 100% solution for you? Still have track control through the steering wheel?

If this works for my intermittant charging in the e92 that would be a very satisfying fix.

The problem I have with charging my 3gs is the 4.0 O/S as well. It charged perfectly on the old 3.0 O/S

I have the same issue and I am curious as well to see if this is a good solution as well. I should not have upgraded my 3gs to 4.0o/s

Im running 3.1 on iphone 3gs ... and with the adapter, sometimes it takes plugging my phone in and out twice for the phone to actually start 'charging'. I still get the message that the phone 'cannot be charged using this device...' etc but I get the charge symbol over the battery and battery life definitely increases although at a slower rate than a wall charger.

Not sure if theres as better alternative yet...a newer Y cable perhaps from BMW or aftermarket? But seems like for $20 the scosche adapter is a viable solution so far.

I haven't tried using it as an ipod, just pandora so far on there and that works great (just no control over it except on the phone itself ).

jailbreak it and install no accessory. It will give u control of ur ipod app on ur phone plus still play from the dock port. Idrive still works w/ it. It allows u to control from both
