Question about helmets for track gurus

Just go my Gforce helmet and it feels a little tight. size (M). So I drove to my friends house and tried his size (L) but it feels really big. Do helmets break-in? Will it feel looser with some use?

Thanks

Well smart The inside of the helmet is made from foam. My question is will the foam become thinner with time?

usually..they free up...but this is the reason why you shouldnt buy helmets off the web UNLESS you have already tried on that exact model of helmet at a shop and tested fitment. You dont want a headache..but you dont want your head sloshing around either.

You answered your question, it's foam it'll mold over time and compress. From a safety standpoint better snug than loose. You won't even notice the tightness once your on the track. Your good don't sweat it.

Yep, better snug than loose. But definitely try out the helmet before buying it next time.

What model did you get and where and how much?

Racers: Do you have a full-face helmet or open face? I know that full-face is safer, but is it required for a street car?

Thanks

In certain situations, as you might think, no helmet can protect you fully. I have seen guys not make it with full faced helmets. But that being said..I would still opt for a full face helmet over an open faced...that is..if you are going on track. If you are just autocrossing...open faced is fine.

Thanks for the info. I'll be getting a full-face SA2005 helmet for sure.

By the way, my avatar is me standing next to Mario Andretti. I've held a couple of his old race helmets and the new ones that Marco wears. The new ones are SO light weight, but they cost $6000!

I have a full-face helmet.

I have never crash tested it.

If you are in between sizes, I'd recommend trying a different helmet manufacturer. Long long ago, I bought a Shoei helmet when I bought a motorcycle and after wearing it for 2 hours, I had such a bad headache that I got dizzy and had to pull over and take the helmet off for 30 minutes or so. It's not worth ruining a good track day with a helmet that doesn't fit. I happen to fit Arai helmets really well, and the Bell Motorsports ones are only ok on me. Try a different brand.
