I just brought it back but have another day to make a final decision I drove it home last night and used the paddle shifters and thought 'This is not an ultimate driving machine' then when I went back out last night and moved the shift lever to the left - DS is night and day in the E91. Downshifts, upshifts, stays in gear, just wow. Today I got to drive on a nice back road in a spirited fashion and it was just great.

Part of me thinks if I drive it for 6 months and don't like it, it will probably be worth what I paid for it!

Would you mind sharing how much it cost to swap to a manual?

I got a friend price and the labor also included a general refresh of the car so what I spent isn’t going to be very helpful, but I'd budget about $4-5k between parts and labor just to be safe. For anyone reading this who is interested in a swap and happens to live in NJ/NY I’m happy to refer you to my friend.

Can someone tell me how to mark a post as 'Appreciate'? Is it the plus button in the bottom right corner? I have clicked it but it turns red and I wonder if I am flagging something as inappropriate. :-)

Do you guys think there’s a lot of other people out there as interested in these wagons as we are, but not on this forum?

On a web browser on the lower left area of a post (not over further to the left where there is a report post flag) there is an appreciate button. If someone has already clicked it, it will show the number of appreciates, but you can still click it to add to the count.

Yes. Look at the results on BaT, Cars and Bids, eBay, and asking prices on Craigslist, autotrader etc. Demand outweighs supply, at least.

There was a 2012 (or 2011) Black xDrive manual transmission one for sale in Brooklyn. It had definitely lived its life on the street - wasn't bad, but wasn't super clean. I contacted the owner and she told me there were so many messages on it that she has decided to just sell the car to the highest bidder. Originally she was asking $12,000, I think she sold it for $15,000 or $16,000 and I don't think it was anyone on this forum because no one posted they bought it! A manual, RWD, no iDrive is the unicorn of unicorns.

Find one and don't tell anyone you did and buy it! Also make sure you don't rip off the owner. I was going to tell the woman in Brooklyn that I think she should ask $14K and that I was willing to pay that. I would have felt guilty buying it for $12,000 knowing she could have gotten more!

That’s true.
I do see e91s being sold and I never see them mentioned here by the new owners.
Besides the people in this thread, I know one other person irl that’s a fan of the e91/e61, but he’s not on any forums.

Unicorn is 6MT RWD M Sport ihmo, that's <50 cars. There were 400+ RWD 6MT so it's uncommon but not a "unicorn" in my eyes. Unicorn literally means so rare you never see it. Plenty of 6MTs popping up for sale around these parts. The M Sport variants pop up a handful of times each year. I agree that a single hump RWD 6MT is the best combo, M Sport is the cherry on top!

Maybe not everyone is a forum junky? Lots of people hanging out on social media. This and bfc and other forums are still my preferred medium for what it's worth.

Seems like there are plenty out there based on how quickly things sell and the number of people who call sellers up quickly. Everything becomes an auction.

I took mine to my gf's parents house over the holidays. The neighbor started chatting up her father and basically was repeating everything I had told him about it. Still wish it had a manual, but it has all of the options I wanted and even with pricey shipping from California I consider it a good deal ($8k for loaded with 100k miles and no accidents).

I might have stumbled into a nice find but I'd like to hear the groups input.

2007, 328i, Auto, RWD, 72,000 miles

Silver with grey interior, Sport package, Premium package

I really dislike silver + grey interior color combo but the low miles and sport package are appealing. The car isn't for sale per se but the owner said he doesn't drive it any more and I think he would be willing to sell it.

What do you think its worth?

Seems like a pretty good spec e91. Yesterday I helped my neighbor buy an e91 which was very similar to this one. Silver with black interior, RWD, Sport Pack, 90k miles. I think we got a pretty good deal at 7,500. It's important to note that it also depends on what maintenance has been done. I think a e91 like you mentioned would be worth about 10k or so with proper service history and what not. Hope this helps

I agree that if you do a conversion with factory appearance (not certain how you would half-way it anyway), value of the car would increase. I cannot say you'll get your investment back, I would not have fear for a conversion that was done correctly, as I wouldn't be after an e91 MT as a collector, only as a driver.

For me, would be the same argument if I were buying an e46 M3 that had been converted to MT from SMG. I would be willing to pay the going MT premium if the conversion was done to factory.

Great color combo, too bad about the title:
