E92 330i Acceleration Delay & Power Loss

I’ve been away for a long weekend so the car was just sitting doing nothing for 5 days. (57 plate E92 330i M sport 30K Miles Manual). Since we've been back it’s suffering from delayed acceleration and slightly reduced power. The delayed acceleration occurs immediately after changing gear, (i.e change gear, floor it, and nothing happens for about 1 second, then it takes off but feels down on power in some gears! The fault occurs in every gear but more noticeable in lower gears. Tried driving with DCT off and fault still exists.

Has anyone come across this problem before??? I will have to take it back to BMW when I get a chance, only last month it cost me £967 for servicing and two rear tyres! Hopefully not another hefty bill round the corner.

P.S No fault lights showing on dash or on the Idrive computer.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Bloody modern efficient engines. Just has 6 sparks plugs, injectors and new software update, still hasn't solved the problem. Coil packs maybe next potential cure....

A mate of mine told me main faults with BMW petrol engines are injectors and coil packs. Do you have the same problem as me? Was the work covered under warranty???

My 325i E93 had similar traits - went through 2 sets of injectors and 3 sets of coil packs in 2 years

Hi all

I also got this problem on my 07 330i A/T. My car has been out of warranty.... I have it checked and it doesn't show error code.

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi - first time joining any kind of forum so apologies in advance if I break any protocols or etiquette!

I’ve just bought a F31 330i M Sport touring - manual - 2016 with 77k - one owner - full BMW main dealer service history.

I’ve had it a couple of weeks now. I live in London so haven’t had many occasions to take it past 4000rpm. When I have deployed WOT I’ve noticed similar issues posted on here.

There is a 1 second cut off in the throttle at around 5000rpm when changing from up from 2nd to 3rd and again from 3rd to 4th.

I’ve had the spark plugs changed and the garage I bought it from are changing the coil packs next week.

He’s plugged it in and there are no error codes whatsoever. Car seems immaculate.

I’ve also felt like when I first get to 4th gear - there can also be that 1 second cut in throttle power.

This only happens when I floor it. It drives superbly otherwise and I’m very happy with it.

I bought from RCC in London. The guy Pres seemed to really know his BMW’s and is totally perplexed by this issue. He has tried to suggest its an engine safety thing but it doesn’t happen every time and I just don’t buy that.

I’d love to know if anyone found a definitive answer to what causes this issue and more importantly how to fix it!

Cheers,
Oli

An engine safety thing? Did he tell you this on the 1st April? Should be seamless acceleration right across the rev range in all gears.

Given that these cars store fault codes for trivial things like running low on screen wash, I find it surprising your car has none at all.

I’d suggest taking it to a proper mechanic / garage to get it properly diagnosed, then send your seller the bill.

Where in London are you? Jim @ Munich Power is very good (near Gatwick) and Turner Automotive in Twickenham are also good.

Or you could buy a d-can cable for £30 and have a look at the fault codes yourself.

Edit** just noticed your car is 2016 so you have a different engine (4cyl turbo) and the info on this thread won’t be relevant.
