This hose broke yesterday when I was driving through a tunnel. Steam coming out at the front and I immediately turn the cabin heater to max in order to help heat dissipation(hopefully). This is second time in a few months I saw steam coming from the front when driving. First time was the upper hose connect to the radiator.

Luckily the temp did not pass 120 mark at the gauge. Now the car is being towed to a garage to replace all these plastic hoses.

Question on this piece: I have a 2008 with 107k on it. Is the rest of the hose ok to leave on or shoudl the entire thing be replaced? if the entire hose, is it worth it to mess with this aluminum piece when the plastic connector lasted this long?

also, what other hoses tend to break/leak on this car? I am trying to make sure it is still reliable for long drives, etc. I already replaced the vent tube hose across the top of the radiator when it broke plus the upper radiator hose as that connector broke off when trying to replace the vent hose. Thanks!

Cut as little off the hose as possible and replace the fitting. Visually inspect the hose, if it’s brittle and cracking then replace it.

I just removed my coolant hose to access the awkwardly placed lower bolt on the oil filter housing and sure enough it broke. I'm ordering one of the aluminum ones since my hoses still look good. Oh well, I'd much rather break this in the garage than have it crack 300 miles from home.

What's the best way to remove the plastic that's stuck inside? Dig at it with a pick?

Also what is the easiest way to remove the existing hose clamp? I'm thinking a dremel with a cut off wheel. The aluminum coupler on ebay comes with a standard hose clamp.

yeah I just used a pick and then some emory cloth to clean off the corrosion.

You probably pinched the o-ring. Happens often as the edges on the engine head are sharp.

I had this problem on a 525i. After doing some search I ended up here and I was not sure if this part will fit my 525i, but it did.

Eventually, I found a DIY guide and ended up changing the fitting myself. It took less than 15 minutes. Make sure to lube the O ring before installation. It will be easier to install the new part.

Has anyone had the aluminum fitting leak? Perhaps the o-rings is damaged but I dressed the hole and greased the o-ring before install.

Anyway, anyone know the size of this o-ring for replacement?

Check the hose clamp. I recently had to remove my adapter to install a new Oil Filter Housing Gasket and upon reinstalling I had a leak. I thought it was the o-ring so I replaced it, but the leak persisted. It turned out to be the hose clamp wasn't tightened enough.

Let me preface this by saying that my car has nearly 200,000mi. The other day the plastic connector broke off while driving on the freeway and dumped half the coolant causing the car to go into limp mode. After reading this thread, I bought an aluminum replacement for $20 and some BMW coolant, cut an inch of the existing hose (bit of a pain) and had it fixed in about an hour. Not much room, but I'm not complaining. It's probably simpler on my N52 than on an N54. Just wanted to thank you guys for the recommendation, seems better than another plastic part that's destined to fail again and saved me from rerouting the hose. If anything goes wrong I'll let you guys know..
