Bavauto sells a mat that goes between the hub and the rim, its very affordable and it keeps the wheels from sticking to the hub too..

Great tip, Ryan. I do take all my wheels off from my M3 once a month to clean the inner wheels and the suspension assembly. The first time I took the wheels out it gave me a hard time just to get the wheels off from the hub, and there it was, rust all over the place. I've been using a wire brush to remove the rust from the hub, and it was okay, however the rust kept on coming back every time I had the wheels taken out, so from now on I'll take your suggestions. Great work, man...

Nice job, OP. Followed ur suggestion this week and sanded the rusting rotor hub on all four wheels.
Applied the anti-seize onto the hub and wheel center as well to avoid the rims locking onto the hub again. It was a biatch to loosen the rims!! Took me nearly 20 minutes (EACH!)for the first 2 wheels. Didn't know better so i just used WD40 and a rubber mallet to knock the rims off the rotor. Bought a can of catalyst suggested by the Oreilly's folks. Best 2.99 ever spent. Just spray it on, knock on the rims and tires a bit, wait 5 minutes and then knock on it again. Much easier with the remaining 2 wheels with the catalyst! Last edited by maruzo; 03-26-2014 at 10:19 PM.. |

You can find postings about sheared off bolts and lost wheels even on e90post. Beside that any stuff between hub and wheel acts as a spacer made from (more or less) thick/soft material causing the wheel bolts to come loose. Applying anti seize paste to the inner hub rim and wheel center is fine BTW I don't know about a stuck wheel that ever refused to come off using a good punch, kick or a whack with a rubber mallet If the idea of shiny hubs makes you happy this is first choice: and that works too but takes more time:
